Apologies if I should have figured this out from the thread above, but hopefully someone wouldn't mind answering the following: What determines if there will be availability to use vouchers to upgrade from Business to First? I just called up to book LON-MUC-BOS/EWR-LON in business and use my vouchers to upgrade the MUC-BOS leg to First but was told there was no availability. I could be waitlisted though. I don't t want to fly Lufthansa in business, so I will only book if I can use the vouchers. Reading this thread it seems you cannot really rely on this at time of booking, which makes the vouchers pretty useless to me. Any bright ideas? Or should I just mentally write off the vouchers? Thanks!

There is no way to determine availability in advance. You might try and get lucky with vouchers clearing right away, but mostly you get waitlisted. If it's a premium route, you can pretty much be assured that the vouchers will not clear. In my experience, they are indeed useless because the routes I fly are impossible to upgrade with vouchers. I gave my last two vouchers to a family member who burned them on a couple of 1-hour flights within the EU. It turned me off so much that I started flying AF for a while.

Hi! Im wondering if its the same with upgrading from Economy to Business ? Are they useless. I am flying Swiss air Zurich to ZIN and return with my family and I only had 2 vouchers, they were all ok with me using them to upgrade myself. hThe flight out required two and the return flight required three. I was waitliseted for the flight out. Are there zero chances it will clear? Flighs are oct/nov.
I could use them for premium economy instead Id rather safe bet than wait and not get anything. As of right now Im not even ticketed I guess and As we are going on holiday nightmare scenario would be me being stranded in Zurich and family has to fly without me.
If that happens what would be the case? Family has no status I am a senator trying to upgrade from economy to Business using evoucher. They had to split us up to two separate booking codes and it shows as waitlisted in mmb

Swiss does not fly ZRH-ZIN ... what is the route?

You can try that BOS might work if it is F8 but EWR unlikely, the problem is Evouchers have a minimal internal value, so they currently only work if the Bot thinks the seats would go out unoccupied….

Simply depends on the loads, they sell seats for cash first, then bids, then mileage upgrades & finally evouchers, they can clear at any time including during boarding or not at all.

Flew today with another HON BKK-ZRH and both our e-vouchers cleared about 1h before boarding. What a relief for such a long flight (12h).
I had my request waitlised 6 weeks ago.

Clearing HON eVouchers after check-in has closed is truly penny-pinching and the tightest of tight behaviour…

But at least the HON already received the F ground services. For non-HON it would mean no F lounge/FCT and no car (if applicable) and this, I would argue, are part of the F experience and should be part of the voucher upgrade.
