LX Flight Cancelled Days in Advance [due to AOG of HB-JND]
Why LX92 to GRU cancelled 31 May, 1 June and 3 June?
I believe the headline says it all. Strange that this flight has been cancelled 3 days lately (however, tonight it appears to operate but it may turn out wrong - then it will be cancelled for 4 days in a row! |
Because of waste tank drain leak and corrosion findings on HB-JND.
The GRU flight is most affected but also LX38 to SFO is delayed because of that issue. On JUN 1 there was a replacement flight (for May 31) LX7092 wih a 6am departure in ZRH. |
I C. Thanks.
Hope this will be fixed soon. I would hate if my upcoming LX92 flight is delayed until the following morning or cancelled. |
I was supposed to fly LUG-ZRH-GRU on Saturday, June 1st. Was informed early Saturday and was rebooked to LUG-ZRH (overnight) ZRH-BCN-GRU with arrival 14 hours late.
I then looked up myself for alternatives and after many calls managed rebook via LUG-ZRH-FRA-GIG-GRU, arriving only 3 hours later than original schedule (but having to leave 4 hours before). To those affected, I suggest to also look for flights to Rio as they have better availability than those to Sao Paulo. It looks like LX 92 is cancelled on June 3rd and 6th. |
Thanks for reporting your first hand experience.
I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world for me to fly to FRA rather than ZRH to fly FRA-GRU on LH506 if J seats are available or via GIG. Even the TAM flight FRA-GRU would do if LX is prepared to rebook like that. |
Good luck, FRA-GRU is totally sold out on 06JUN, only optionn is TP in their new A339 via LIS:

Friday morning LX is sending an extra B77W to GRU:
Code:

Does Swiss also offer rebookings when flights are scheduled to have a delayed departure because of the HB-JND-related problems? I am looking at LX38 (scheduled departure from ZRH at 13:10), which recently was often operated by aircraft arriving from LAX at 15:15 (LX41), which resulted in significant delays. Is LX likely to rebook onto LH flights (MUC/FRA-SFO) in such cases? The connecting flight for LX38 arrives from OSL, so there may be better LH alternative flights from there.

Looks like LX38 is delayed again today.
I have 2 upcoming flights on LX39 (the return back to ZRH of incoming LX38) with 90 minute connections in ZRH. As stated above, it looks like LX 38 (and the returning LX39) are always around 4 hours late if the incoming plane is switched to LX41 from LAX. Not sure if its worth me trying to track the incoming plane for LX38 to get some advance warning of a delay. Is the plane used for LX38 normally coming from GRU or HKG (or does it vary) |
I was on LX38 yesteeday and all went well. And it seemed to be that way for the previous three flights as well. I tracked my inbound plane and it was the HKG flight. I'm on the MUC flight for the return as I needed as much time on the ground in SF as possible. |

You should be able to check flightaware after the prior day's flight has landed. If you're flying LX38 today, you should be able to track its inbound plane once the previous day's LX38 lands in SFO. Don't know if it's accurate, but it worked for me. |
LX Flight Cancelled Days in Advance
LX operates a daily flight ZRH-BKK and BKK-ZRH. My flight BKK-ZRH June 16 was cancelled June 10, and not surprisingly, ZRH-BKK on June 15 was cancelled as well. I was not particularly pleased to find out days in advance that the flight is cancelled - I can understand a last minute mechanical problem which is unforeseen, but a few days in advance do they not have alternative solutions? I am sure some FTers here are far more knowledgeable about how tied their hands are in these situations and how easy/hard it would have been to provide an alternate aircraft. In any event, perhaps it's a rare exception but this is the kind of thing I would expect from Air China, not LX.
To make matters worse, I only found out today on June 12 that the flight was cancelled, and it's not because LX informed me. My wife and I are on two separate tickets and we did not have seats together so I went in our bookings online to check if new seats had opened up and that's when I saw that the flight segment BKK-ZRH had been completely removed from the bookings and nothing to replace it. It is possibly even more unacceptable to cancel a flight and not inform me or rebook me on anything, than the flight itself being cancelled days in advance. If I did not have an issue about seats, would I have just showed up at the airport on June 16 and find out that LX staff was not even at the airport? How common is it that LX drops the ball like this and not notify or rebook customers? For such a flight to be cancelled I suspect that they rebooked lots of customers with viable alternatives in the hours subsequent to the cancellation, but I got left behind. By the time I called LX today they told me that there was no alternative flight with 2 available seats in J where I could leave the morning/afternoon of June 16 and arrive on June 16, at least within Star Alliance. The only options were to leave June 15 or around 1am on June 16, both of which I was not particularly happy with. Or flights where we leave June 16 but not arrive in ZRH until June 17 which was a no-go. There are non-Star flights that could accommodate me (Finnair, Oman, Emirates) but they refused to rebook me on those flights and said "it cannot be done". Is that true? I understand they would not be keen on doing this, but I have been rebooked on other flights outside an alliance in the past so I wonder if they were not being honest. Last but not least, I do not think it's necessarily related but it adds to my state of irritation: I had already paid a change fee twice in May before ending up picking June 16. So I paid the change fee twice for the service of having the flight on the date I want, only for them to pull the rug from under my feet so I end up paying twice and not have the date and flight I wanted. I guess it is what it is and I should shut up and move on - I don't think there is much I can do about this part of the situation. After I felt I was being misled by the agent on the phone about not being to rebook on AY or EK, I hung up and called again. The next agent was far more helpful. We were rebooked on TG's flight at 1am which is not convenient but I did not feel I had valid alternatives (and the previous agent had said that TG flight was full in J). The second agent recommended that I submit my feedback on the contact form online and he agreed that LX had screwed up, not that his opinion matters all that much in the grand scheme of things. Would sending feedback lead to something useful or would it just be venting and a waste of time? |
I think you should definitely submit your feedback about this experience to LX. I would expect them to refund all the fees you paid to change the flight date/time, although they are not obliged to do so.
As always, keep your message brief, objective and to the point. Avoid emotional language and exaggeration, and state what you expect to receive from them at this point. In my experience LX does well in these cases. YMMV. |
