TSA Forum?

Could we create a forum for TSA related discussions?

There have been some VERY good threads in the NEWS forum, but they probably do not belong there.

Given the issues we face every day, I think a dedicated forum would serve the community.

Perhaps a forum for ALL security related issues, screening, etc...

I agree with ScottC about making it 'security' related without having to be just for the TSA.

Sounds like a good idea.

Obviously doesn't belong in any airline forum since its cross airlines.

THis is very much needed since security issues are here to say and generate a great deal of traffic in odd places on the board

Randy Petersen Jan 20, 2003 5:57 pm

Actually, the TalkBoard brought that issue up before me a few weeks back and I've yet to realize any real need for a separate forum for it. Security has long been a part of travel to any place in the world and for years we've had no problem fitting it into TravelBuzz! I'm looking for arguments (actually, points of view) of why it rationally requires its own forum and why not just as a thread by topic within TravelBuzz!? I've done my minor adjustments to the new rules of security but really haven't found it personally necessary to post anything about it much less seek out a separate forum for such. Of course I'm not interested in my own views, just the views of the many who use this board. In closing so i can read the feedback - keep in mind that some think we all ready have an abundance of forums as it is, which is why i've taken no action on a TalkBoard request for a seaparte forum on Turkey (the country) in the travel forums.

Let's hear from you all. I'm open to thought.

My 2c is that if there was a separate Forum I probably would not go seek it out. The security hassles are annoying enough as it is without seeking to read a PILE of them all together. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Any airline specific info seems to appear in those Forums. . i.e. WHICH seats are routinely commandeered by Air Marshals etc, so as to avoid booking those in advance.

MY wider interest is piqued by SPECIFIC examples of TSA actions that seem zany, and those threads can appear anywhere. Four come to mind in four different forums.

1.) The nursing mother being forced to publicly drink her own breast milk "in case it contained explosive materials etc" by security agents at TSA checkpoint. ('In The News')

2.) The over-zealous Air Marshals holding guns pointed at all pax for duration of a long DL flight for as it turned out no good reason at all. The guy they overpowered was never charged with anything. One of them had been rejected for a job as a police officer due to his mental state and poor attitude. (Delta Forum)

3.) A number of Spiffs threads in 'OMNI' and 'In The News'.

4.) Punki's terrible treatment at PDX re her purse search and the subsequent official "ban" on her flying UA again that day for being a "trouble-maker". (UA Forum)

None of these I would have read if there were a separate Forum, and have to agree with Randy that there seem PLENTY enough (far too many IMO) Forums as it is.

Randy,

There has been some VERY spirited discussion in the News Forum about Security and it really does not belong there.

Add that to the fact that there are a lot of security related threads in the individual airline forums that do not belong there either, I thought it would be a good idea to create a central area for security discussions.

IMO, there have been enough security discussions across FT to warrant theri own forum.

I agree with CG. The number of threads started across the forums on security issues, along with the substantial interest in these threads, warrants a separate forum. Not to mention the TSA people have had a hard time finding any other forum and seem to have made 'In the News' their new home to post whatever is on their minds http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I personally think security threads belong in TravelBuzz! (Travel but not miles related ...)

Randy Petersen Jan 24, 2003 2:38 pm

I'm with essxjay on this but turns out we're on the minority side of things. Doesn't matter, once a majority wins I support it - your new forum has been available for two days now.
