Froum descriptions - too 'award-program' centric
Everytime I go to the main FlyerTalk Forum page, I notice the Forum descriptions, ie.:
Delta -
Discussion regarding Delta SkyMiles
American Express -
Discussion regarding American Express Membership Rewards
and have come to the conclusion that these descriptions are highly inaccurate.
If you read the Delta forum (or any airline forum for that matter), you'll likely find few threads which deal with the Skymiles program (or Mileage Plus, OnePass, etc.). Same with the credit card and car rental forums.
Why isn't (or can't) the descriptions read "Discussions about Delta Airlines" or "Discussions about Delta Airlines (featuring the Skymiles program)".
My guess is the board for "the frequent flyer community", the natural inclination is to think it terms of FF awards, and FF programs. However, as I said, I think discussions about just that is a minority topic. You're more apt to have discussions on labor issues, best seats, cheap values, getting upgrades, etc, than FF issues.
Maybe it's time for a change.

Jeff: This is a suggestion with which I can certainly agree! With the recent changes, in thinking about where to place my airline-specific posts which have nothing to do with Miles per se, I have had the same thoughts.
There are no airline-specific boards in the Travel Forum. Yet, a post in the General Travel forum area is certainly not going to attract the attention and get the answers I need from the "experts" who may only visit the airline-specific "miles" board. But a post in Miles Buzz area may attract the "scolding" of a Moderator.
Several recent threads concerning AA, but not having to do with Miles, in the Travel forum have simply died with much left unanswered and/or unsaid. Of course that board is a basket case devoted almost exclusively to 20/20 matters. I will be very happy when it is over, having made my quota without a single post.

Welcome to the new, improved world of FT where somehow less is more.

kappa et al., I agree. There's one thread in particular over in TravelBuzz about some really obnoxious AA non-revs in F that has gathered all of a dozen replies over the course of a week (maybe more). Had the initial poster put it in the AA forum, I can all but guarantee we'd be on page 3 or 4 of the thread right now (and, now that we sort of have an official "lurker", it would've been seen by someone with connections at AA).
Oh well, such is the price of progress, I guess.
I still want to keep the suggestion going that TravelBuzz should appear across all forums, like Omni.
