Can you still get preferred plus by having the Starwood Amex?

If not how does one get it (preferred plus) by having a membership with AARP?

So I emailed [email protected] yesterday morning with my SPG and AAA information, and still haven’t heard back, despite The Points Guy’s claim that it would only take a few hours. When I followed up with [email protected] this morning I was told I had to wait. Pretty disappointed since I’m checking into a Marriott tomorrow and was hoping for Silver by then. (Yes, I only just heard about this perk and emailed as soon as I knew.)

Our apologies for the inconvenience, but it's doubtful that anything like this is going to be able to ever be done via email these days. Any changes to an account require that you verify ownership of the account. So, you would be better served to call into 888-625-4988 and ask for whoever you speak to to add your AAA number to your SPG profile once that is done. If you find someone that tells you to call AAA or cannot get the upgrade to Preferred Plus done once your AAA affiliation is noted, ask to speak to their supervisor.

That being said, it's going to take 24 - 48 hours for any linked Marriott Rewards account to be upgraded based upon your SPG status, so it may or may not help you on this stay.

The only benefit a Marriott Silver gets that a non-elite Marriott Rewards member gets is a 20% bonus on points earned on a paid stay. Enjoy your stay tomorrow night and try not to think about this issue.

Thanks for the quick responses. I called and was given status right away. My upcoming stay is until Sunday, so maybe my status will come through while I’m there. And while I know I won’t get much as a Marriott Silver, it’s better than nothing.

I've got a question - I was Guest Preffered Plus in SPG - is it equal to base status in new program of SPG/Marriott?

Hi pawi81,

Preferred Guest Plus members will receive Silver Elite status in the new program.

So, I've got just Member. Maybe I didn't merge it properly. Who can help? I know that there's many problems.

If you'll post your pre-combined numbers (now you did do the combine accounts process, right?) I am sure there are many that will let you know what you should be. Also, keep in mind they are not done so changes will continue.

I can see Silver Elite now, but GP+ was lifetime - where can I see date of expire this SIlver Elite? I can't find it.

Well, PG+ was lifetime as long as you maintained your AAA/AARP/other membership. Or presumably as long as those organizations maintained a relationship with SPG.

I can't seem to find anything on the Marriott/New SPG site about this and the AAA website now only talks about the AAA rate, and doesn't seem to mention anything about status (at least for AAA Northeast) so I suspect PG+/Silver status as a perk may go the way of the dodo after this year. I'd be happy to be wrong though.
