Hi -

It should, but if you have a month long stay, it will count as your first stay

If you want the 2x points, see if you can book a 1-night stay somewhere else on 1/16 and then check in for your long-ter stay on 1/17.

For example, I haver a 4 night saty in DC coming up. I am staying in one hotel by the airport fo the 1st night, hen staying three nights in the hotel closer to where I need to be.

Nothing counts until you check out and the stay posts to your account.

If we don't like the SPG/Marriott promotions, there's always AirBnB, VRBO, HomeAway, etc. Thankfully we have options. And lots of them.

Officially, back-to-back nights at the same property count as one stay regardless of how it's booked. However, in practice YMMV, I did this once and it counted as two stays, but I always qualify for platinum status through nights so it doesn't make a difference to me.

As others already stated, your status doesn't get updated until 24 hours or so after checkout.

as per the t&c of the program this will count as one stay....your best bet is to stay at another property for the first night & then shift to this property for the remainder of your stay....

Hey everyone.

Sorry if this has already been asked/answered...

I have a reward stay tonight booked using the free night voucher from the UK Starwood Amex. I'm wondering if this will count as my first stay for the purposes of this promotion? Would it make a difference if I make sure something is billed to the room, like something from the mini bar?

Thanks in advance.

only paid nights are eligible so this would not count as your first stay....

Great thanks for your help. I'd better book a cheap night somewhere then before a 7 night stay in a couple of weeks!

No, sneaky is when here are hidden rules, conditions that aren't mentioned until later, etc. Some may not like the terms of this promotion, but it's hardly sneaky. IMO Starwood is being very upfront about this rule.

Exactly. It's a promotion, a gift. Starwood doesn't have to give these bonuses to us. If it doesn't work for you, no need to avail yourself of it.

Thank you, William. I'll happily take double points plus an extra 500 for stays which include a weekend night any time you care to offer it to me!

Well, it's interesting to see that for all the "OMG Here come the Philistine MR hordes" in the SPG forum and the fears SPG will be "trashed" post-merger, that whining about "how badly the promos suck" is shared between BOTH programs!

Weren't some saying that less competition didn't matter that much in the hotel industry?

Question for the lurkers:

If I check in before the earning period begins or check out after the earning period ends, but some of my stay is in the earning period, does my stay earn the bonus?

Yes, as long as one night of the eligible stay is within the earning period, bonus Starpoints will be earned (even if part of the stay falls outside the earning period).
Does the above from FAQ's applies on the 500 Bonus Points as well?

To earn the 500 Bonus Points, the weekend night needs to be within earning period.
