I've had them take as long as 5 or even 10 seconds, depending on my wifi connection

If I transfer to Marriott and ultimately decide I don't need the points there, can I transfer back to SPG (and is that also almost instantaneous)? Thanks

Yes, you can do that anytime and it is +/- instantaneousinstantaneous.

Not instantaneous for me. 3 hours and still no sign of them in my Marriott account.

update: posted at about the 3.5 hour mark.

How many points did you transfer? I’ve transfered small amounts in the past. That was instantaneous. Now I transfered about 115.000 SPG points to my Ritz-Carlton account and points now also didn‘t show up at once. Perhaps there‘s some sort of security measure at a certain amount.

I recently transferred 118,000 Marriott points to SPG and it was immediate.

Not terribly relevant here. The question is about transfers in the other direction.

Something does seem to have changed recently. I have done multiple five figure transfers in the past from SPG > Marriott that have shown up instantly. Did another five figure transfer tonight (smaller than past transfers) and it has not shown up so far. Not a big deal because not in a rush.

Edit: Points posted overnight so not sure when but it was more than 3 hours.

I have just tried to transfer 1000 spg points, as a test run to marriott 5 minutes ago. It's not instantaneous. I presume the points will arrive in the next three hours as others have commented here. Won't try with the big transfer until the small package arrives.

Just following up, the transfer took about 20 minutes to appear in my Marriott account.

Did you try logging out and then back in, or did you just wait the 20 minutes? I've found the transfers to be instant, but my displayed point balance won't update immediately unless I relog.

I thought I replied to this previously, but for some reason, my response didn't show up.

I have done probably a dozen of these transfers. They used to show up instantaneously for me. I think I did have to log out of Marriott and back in.

The last two weren't instantaneous.

I did one about two weeks ago. I checked for probably about half an hour before I gave up. It was there the next morning.

I just did one this morning. I've been checking for the past hour and it's not there yet. (UPDATE: Now over 3 hours and the points still aren't there.)

I think something has changed recently so these transfers aren't instantaneous. I'm considering leaving my points split between the two. I used to keep them all in SPG and transfer as needed.

After 3 hours, the balance still hadn't changed. (I had logged off and back on numerous times since that used to be necessary.)

I checked closer and discovered that it appears to just be the points balance in the header that wasn't updating.

When I went to Activity, it showed the points being added there. When I went to the reservation and requested a certificate, it seemed a little quirky, saying I needed more points, but when I logged out and back in again, it showed my correct balance (minutes the points from the certificate) and the reservation shows a certificate.

So there's definitely something going on there, but it's not necessarily that the points weren't transferring instantly.
