[GONE] New Orleans Airport Four Points, left SPG Nov 2014 [Master Thread]
 

I'm thinking of staying here during Jazz Fest. I did a search and couldn't find any reviews on this property. Anybody have any info?

This is an old Howard Johnson. It is close to the airport. Definitly not in New Orleans. You will need a rental car to get to the Jazz Fest. Parking is a problem around the Jazz Fest. Your best bet is to park at City Park and take the provided shuttle service. The shuttle service is not free. You will be going into and out of the city during rush hour plan on a lengthy trip in the car. I would check out www.biddingfortravel.com . Several JazzFest bids have been accepted at much closer hotels.

I stayed here in November and had the worst experience of any 4 Points ever. Just be aware that it doesn't compare to most of the 4 Points that are out there. That being said, it's still going to be one of the few (if not the only) Starwood properties available for Jazzfest.

your profile doesn't state if you have status with Starwood and if you are trying to qualify for a special promotion. I would definitly stay away from this property and could direct you to other closer nicer properties for about the same amount of money. Which weekend are you coming and what was the rate you got at the 4 Points.

I would like to offer a different opnion.

I have stayed there a couple times. One time I was upgrade to a two room suite on the first floor (as a Platinum). Another time I got a big thrid floor room (when I was a Gold). The hotel offerred alcohol pass at their bar at each stay, which is rare because this is a Four Points.

The room is a bit old, but the staff is friendly. There are some interesting restaruants/shops north of the hotel. It is not as tourist as downtown New Orleans, which can be good or bad. Parking is free, compared to most downtown hotels who charge $20.00 per night for their valet parking.

It's a dump. But it's far less of a dump if you get it for $32 through Priceline.

I am an SPG gold (use to be platinum). I was going to use points to stay here (10,000 for a Wed. through Sun. stay). However, I am not going now. I plan on going to NO in mid May and will try to stay in French Quarter somewhere. Thanks for everyone's responses.

Any comments on this property? Good (safe) location, rooms, etc.) I'm getting a $79 during a convention week in NO (everything is $150+ downtown) and don't mind driving into town.

I have stayed at this property on several occasions and I have found it to be mediocre at best. But it is just blocks away from the airport as well as the businesses I need to visit so I tolertae it.

The rate is reasonable. The property is very safe and you are minutes from the French Quarter with little traffic problems.

It is overall an acceptable property and by no means should you expect world class service but rooms are clean as the property underwent a severe restoration about 4 years ago near the end of its days as a Holiday Inn.

I agree with the comment above about the Four Points. At $79/nite you will get what you pay for - a clean hotel near the airport.

Just a thought - will the added expense of a rental car and parking downtown offset the cost of just staying downtown?

Exactly my thoughts re. the extra expense of parking, etc. By staying near the Quarter or CBD you'll be able to enjoy the city on foot or via the streetcar.

Besides, what is the Sheraton's rate for your dates? I know the Ws can be high (well over $250/night at times) but the Sheraton can come up as surprisingly affordable. It appears to be a mediocre convention-style hotel, but the location is good (right on Canal near St. Charles) and it had a recent renovation.

I stayed at both the Sheraton and the 4 Points last year, and would recommend the Sheraton (it only cost me about $30 extra a nite). The 4 Points is okay - just okay. The Sheraton is nice, near the casino and the Quarter, and all in all a nicer property.

Also, I can tell you with certainty, traffic can be a problem, depending on the time of day.

I am a NOLA native and I think this hotel is in a horrible location. It is literally right on the interstate in an area with zero character with nothing really close by for food choices. it is only 10 or 15 miles to downtown but there is major construction on I-10 which causes major daily traffic delays. Plan on atleast an hour each way to go to downtown. Personally I would check some of the other hotels in downtown. There are several nice Wyndham properties.

If you have an early flight, or if are looking to get an extra, and relatively reasonable stay, this is a decent option.

Recently stayed here. The check-in agent acknowledged my Platinum status and automatically gave me points as my amenity.

It has a decent restaurant and bar. Jennifer the bartender was very friendly to all that stopped by. Has a decent menu. I was given a free drink coupon at check-in. Ordered some "New Orleans styled Buffalo wings" which were big and spicy and good.

Was not able to get an upgrade (there was a soccer team and a convention there) but I got what I expected: a nice clean, comfortable room. It was on the highway side, and my only little suggestion is maybe a little bit more noise insulation around the windows. But I was so tired from a day in the Quarter that double snoring miles came quickly.

The shuttle to the airport starts at 5:30am and leaves every half hour. Airline crews tend to stay here as well so if you have an early flight get the early shuttle.

Honestly, I will be happy with a clean, comfortable room and courteous customer service.

Overall: Three Paws Up.
