Post [Now CLOSED as of 1 Sep 15] Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station Waiting Area for Elites

Hi SPGers,

I just came back from Shanghai and found this little SPG gem at the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway station.

While waiting for my high speed train to Nanjing, I accidentally bumped into it while wondering the station. This is not my first time at the Railway station so was pleasantly surprised that it exists.

Here's what I found out while checking-in at the frontdesk (pun intended):
  • Waiting area for SPG Elites only (Gold & Platinum) members
  • Recently opened in October 2014
  • Opening hours 8am-8pm daily (Not sure about their grand public holiday period though)
  • Complimentary Coffee & Tea
  • Free Wifi

You'll need to provide proof of your SPG Elite status, I used my SPG Card. I'm sure a digital card would work fine too.

No food but that's fine since you're just there to chill while waiting for the train. Having food would probably make a mess of the place. I think it's fine as it is now. Nearest toilet/restroom is on the left after you exit the place.

The seating area looks more attractive and more spacious than many airport lounges.

The frontdesk staff said there's apparently one in Guangzhou as well if I'm not mistaken.

Found this article in Google, looks like translated english. Seems there's also one in Sanya Phoenix Airport (SYX).

Maybe Lurker III Christina can dig up some info for us and see if there are other hidden gems in China.

Hi lcpteck,

You are correct that there is one SPG lounge in Sanya Phoenix Airport.

I am not aware that there is one in Guangzhou or if there is a plan to build one.

Let me check with the relevant department and get back to you later.

Thanks Christina!

I found another article in regards to the one in SYX airport.

Located at the first floor of the terminal of domestic arrives, the lounge is equipped with a resting room, online surfing area and SPG products displaying area. The opening hours is running from 10am to 10pm every day.

According to the Starwood, the SPG benefits include free shutter buses operating between Starwood hotels and resorts in Hainan, a 15% surcharge free for meals and members with kids under 10 years old, the kids can enjoy free meals.

Wonder if the highlighted info is still true (article is dated 2012). Free shuttle buses between the Hainan properties and the Airport will be awesome! Do let us know if have more updated info. Hainan is a big province, maybe it's only to certain properties?

Free buses?? Aren't the Sanya resorts about 2 hours away by road? It's what's been holding me back from going...

Please let us know Christina!

From one of the OP's photos, it looks like the Waiting Area is near Track/Platform #3 North.

Hi lcpteck,

Just would like to provide an update.

I have confirmed with relevant department. So far there is only one SPG lounge in railway station, which is Shanghai Hong Qiao railway station.

As for the SPG lounge in Sanya Phoenix airport, the above information is still true. The buses among the Starwood Hainan Hotels are on demand only and subject to availability.

Please let me know if you have further question.
