Promo Advance Notice : Earn Sheraton Free Weekend Nights - 9Jul-30Sep 15

We wanted all of you to be among the first to know about a few SPG global promotions.

- We also wanted to give you advance notice of a promotion we’re working on to start July 9th – Sheraton Free Weekends. It’s the richest Sheraton focused SPG promotion in the history of the program. You’ll be able to earn a free Sheraton weekend night for every five Sheraton nights you stay from July 9th – Sept 30th. You can earn up to 3 free nights that can be combined, and can be used at any Sheraton hotel or resort (all Categories 1-7!) through December 13th. Just like our existing free night redemption, these Sheraton free nights don’t come with blackout dates or capacity controls. As long as the hotel has a standard room available – it’s your's. Registration will open July 9th, but bookings can be made any time.

You’ll be able to earn in both promotions as long as you register for both.

Sorry its not the richest promo, a number of yrs ago it was stay 2 get 1 free (or stay 3 get 1 free) I earned way more then 3 free nights and still remember spending some great weekends in the likes of The Imperial in Vienna, then a cat 6 highest cat. So a 5 for 1 isnt so great, better then nothing but nothing to chase after either

Just curious : how did you earn a night at the Imperial Vienna in a Sheraton-focussed promotion ?

One to consider for clarification when the T&Cs for this promo are published : are 'Luxury Collection' brand hotels that have 'Sheraton' in their name (eg Sheraton Algarve, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Albufeira) included for the purposes of earning and/or redeeming ?

I believe craz was referring to a promo a few years back which was not limited to Sheraton only.

madrick5 Jun 1, 2015 9:09 am

Two potential dumb questions.

Is the Sheraton promo only good for stays at a Sheraton property -- ie NOT a Westin?

And regarding the Make It Count promo -- I generally do one month stays -- does that mean that the entire stay is only eligible for a 1,000 total bonus points?

Thank you for sharing the news. The additional promotion in July is good to know about as I plan my travel.

as TerryK posted, it was stay x get 1 free at any *W property and it wasnt capped at 3 max.

Now if that would resurface (not holding my breathj) for any Cat I might chase it but not at 5 for 1 nor max of 3 nights especially when it must be at a Sheraton

That is correct, it's a Sheraton focused promotion.

Yes on both. Although you could book break up the stays, but have to pay local hotelier taxes in exchange for the extra bonus points.

Note the wording though. It's the richest Sheraton focused promo. Previous (richer) promos were SPG based.

As a marketing man, I tip my hat to the marketing team for the spin on this one. :)

Still a decent promo, even if not the richest SPG promo.

One could only earn and burn at Sheraton participating properties.

Since this would considered as one stay, the answer is "yes".

Gaucho100K Jun 1, 2015 10:40 am

I havent read up on the fine print of this promotion so please bear with my silly question.

I have a somewhat long stay of 14 nights coming up at a Sheraton Resort Property in Orlando, including two full weekends (ie. I will be having Saturday & Sunday nights on both weekends).

Will I be getting only one 1000 Point Bonus or is there a chance I can perhaps double-dip....?

Thanks very much,
Gaucho100K

If staying 15 nights at a Shearton for 3 weekend nights works for you, go for it. I wont go into all the math but for me its not worth it. And there are are very few "Sheratons" where Id spend a weekend.

For the Sheraton promo, I assume that Sheraton Suites are counted as Sheraton? What about Four Points by Sheraton?

I used mine for Canyon Suites at the Phoenician, IIRC in early December so it was a brief vacation from winter in the frozen north. The hotel did OK in that I added some (expensive) paid nights and had several dinners at in house restaurants.

This is all I have for you at this time, but generally-speaking Four Points is a separate brand from Sheraton and Sheraton Suites are within the Sheraton brand.

Did a 1 nighter there myself, very nice place. Then it was off to Sedona for 3 nights

Bout the only Shearton I can think of is HKG, but Id rather be across the street at The IC and Im there usually in Jan or Feb. And I have '16s stay already lined up for the weekend Id be in HKG(and the promo expires before I will be back there).

Now had it been stay 5 @ Sheraton and use it where you want with SPG, that would be a totally different creature.Im sure it will work for any number of folks especially those not on their own dime. But being on my own dime I can make things workout better for my pocket in other ways

Its alot better then what they have been offering till now, but its by far not the richest promo ever, even for Sheraton as during the other promos we earned credit staying at a Sheraton but were able to cash it out anywhere

AJLondon Jun 1, 2015 11:26 am

Thanks for the update, Lurkers! ^

Nice to see free nights back, albeit with the brand restriction.

For the Sheraton Free Weekends, does multiple rooms (up to 3 rooms) count towards the qualification of the Free Weekend Nights promo?

I must say finally a SPG promo that is fun appeared. Has been quite a while.

porciuscato Jun 1, 2015 1:10 pm

If I book two rooms at the same property, does that qualify as two stays?

NO. 1 stay, but you will get X number of nights * 2 for night credit.

You mean on stay for this promo, so only one of the 1,000 point bonuses.

Fortunately we have a slightly better selection in Europe, plus in Asia where I may get some potential use. For North America, it is a definitely a little less exciting. Just depends on where you have in mind for the usage that drives the value here.

Having done the maths for me locally, I can get a positive return vs investment even on a 5:1 earn / burn rate. Without the cheap earning option, it would definitely be less attractive.

Bwaaahahaha!

As long as the hotel has a standard room available...
A new round of gamesmanship by Sheraton GMs/revenue managers will begin in 3, 2, 1...

ws8n Jun 1, 2015 2:45 pm

Would have been nice if the promotion is good for all SPG properties (maybe up to Cat 6) and Sheraton till Cat 7. Just a thought for the SPG marketing guys!

Just curious why only Sheraton and not the other brands under SPG?

Bullet #2 of the plan.

canalskater Jun 1, 2015 3:22 pm

This is a tough crowd. I like the promotion for the free nights. The other one for 1000 points on a 2 night weekend stay seems weak.

esquesk Jun 1, 2015 3:37 pm

This is definitely much better than the original sneak peak.

However, it still doesn't come close to the Hyatt 25 nights/65k points promotion as those points can be used at all HGP properties on any day. In N/A, there are very few Sheraton properties that I would willing spend my weekend at.

Nevertheless, much better than anticipated. Glad to know that SPG will punch back at their competitors.

Cash & Points will qualify toward Sheraton's free weekend nights promo?

Do some two-night weekend stays at Sheratons and get both.

No Four Points will not count especially since under the unpublished Point 11 of the 2020 plan they will be closing or converting all the Four Points properties. PLEASE

Looking at the room rates on this hotel (300 in June, 500-600 in June/July/Aug, <200 in Sep/Oct/Nov), category 7 seems a bit on the high side. There are more expensive Sheratons to redeem for that have lower category ratings.

Good overall offer though.

Sheraton focused, yes it is the richest program thus far. The promo you mentioned was actually a starwood program, not a Sheraton focused promo.
