Not everyone is an SPG member, and not everyone books through an approved Starwood channel (Starwood web site or app, or SPG Pro travel agents). And, as KENNECTED pointed out, it's only for the room the member is staying in.

All active SPG members, regardless of level, get free Internet if booked through one of the approved channels.

According to this link, Preferred members have to pay for premium internet but Gold and Platinum do not.

I left that out of my original post. This is why I suspect FlyinPete is questioning properties that advertise Internet for a "fee"?

I'm a SPG Gold member and when I search for hotels AFTER logging in to my account, I still see the "Internet for a Fee" remark at an Asian SPG property.

Why is this so when Gold members are entitled to the fastest Internet speed at no extra cost?

Simply because they don't change the description based on your status.

And... If they can collect it without being challenged, they get more revenue. Money grabs happen in a lot of different ways.

SPG complementary internet

Hey all. I've been in India this week and I've gone across multiple hotels. 5/7 of my hotels this trip have not offered complementary internet. Instead they've suggested that I should use my gold check in amenities for internet if I wanted them.

Is this the type of inconsistency I should expect when I travel in India?

Hi rich1833

Although I am a SPG platinum member, I and one my my friends who is not even gold have stayed in more than 12 SPG hotels in India across Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. Internet was always complementary.

This is unusual. Could you mention the specific hotels or cities where you were denied this?

travelswithmyself Dec 30, 2016 6:55 am

If you booked through SPG.COM it's supposed to be complimentary...

All my reservations are booked through the SPG website and BRG. Maybe the BRGs are causing the confusion?
