The TMTravelWorld blog just clarified that this only applies to participating hotels in China 
booked at this particular Chinese-language Starwood site.

Even without the translation, it's not hard to navigate the site. I found that by hacking the URL, I can get the hotels I need pretty easily.

I registered for this promo on the Chinese site on 03.May.
I already had some stays booked at SPG properties, which I had booked in April via the English spg site. These stays were for 01-03.May and 05-07.May in Shanghai.
Today, I saw +500 points credited to my spg account, with description "Chinese booking engine".
Funny thing is, I had never booked any of these stays on the Chinese website, and yet, somehow, I got credited for one of these bookings.

guys, great news! Lots of evidence prove that you dont really have to booked via starwoodmadeforchina.com or spg.com in simplified chinese. Just simply register the promotion and stay in the participated hotels and wait for these 500 points being credited to your accounts. Cheers!

Is this once per hotel? Anybody got multiple 500pts for multiple stays at same hotel? I made 4 stay reservations and only got 2x 500 pts so far for 2 different hotels. One of the missing 500pts is for one of the same hotels I got 500pts. Then the other missing 500 pts is for an entirely different hotel.
