Lounge access at PVG
 

We're flying PVG to Huangshan and back, and PVG to Harbin and back. The first trip is on China Eastern, the second on Shanghai Airlines. Is there any & Alliance lounge I can get into with my Red Carpert Club membership?

If you are not flying on a *A carrier, your RCC membership will not be able to allow you access to the *G lounges in PVG. The 2 airlines you mentioned are not *A carriers.

Take heart that Shanghai Airlines will join *A in a matter of time. ^

Thanks, this link is helpful, especially since I don't see directions to it on the *Alliance website, though it must be there somewhere. My daughter is returning home from PVG on an ANA business award, so she may be able to use a PVG lounge. My wife is coming back from PEK on an ANA business award, and I was able to pull up the lounge map for that airport (and for NRT) by substituting PEK (then NRT) for PVG in the linked address.

Though I do not have an RCC or any of the other lounge membership, am I correct that as a UA 1K traveling international (IAD-PVG and PVG-IAD) on a UA Y ticket I should have access to RCCs and the other *A lounges?

Yes. As UA *G you'll have access to all *A Gold lounges and as you're flying on an international ticket you'll have access to RCCs at IAD and any other airports you fly in from on the same day.

I didn't realize that I had that opportunity when I was a UA 1P (still *G) and missed out on some opportunities I might have taken had I been aware of this benefit. (In some airports, there are separate lounges for those flying F
international with that carrier, and those flying F on another *A carrier, or C or Y on any carrier, won't get into those special first class lounges no matter that they are *G or members of any *A lounges, right?)

Either the map is out of date or the map on NZ's magazine is wrong, since the magazine shows another lounge (presumably contract) being used by NZ.

As *G flying *A airline same day you have access to any designated *G lounges. Normally contract lounges only have access to *G pax of the specific airlines since they are not *G lounges.

Kiwi Flyer is right. As a *G you have access (with one or two exceptions, such as SIN SKL) on the same day of flying to all specifically designated *G lounges (with *G logo outside). But UA/US *G cannot access domestic RCCs unless on same day international flight.

And what I didn't know until I traveled for the first time on an F (award) ticket Down Under to OZ and your incredibly beautiful country, there are more exclusive lounges than the *G ones. (Kuru Clubs don't have more than one COS, though, do they? I now know that UA and SQ, and possibly others, do. And Kuru Clubs have free internet access^ , which UA doesn't provide even in their first class lounges:td:.)

Glad you enjoyed your visit. :) NZ used to operate F lounges, but does so no longer due to the discontinuation of NZ F. I think one or two F lounges might still be operating (SYD?), but only for F pax of other carriers.

Just as a point of clarification, domestic NZ lounges are Koru Clubs and NZ international lounges are, well, International Lounges. :)

Right, Koru not Kuru Clubs! (Koru, as I learned just last month, is that NZ fern, while kuru, as I have long known, is a infectious neurologic disease affecting New Guinea cannibals.)

Didn't know that ANZ didn't fly F on any of its routes. An economic decision, I presume, not an "egalitarian" choice. (ANZ doesn't have "enhanced" economy, does it?) I did check out the Koru Club in SYD, and saw no signs of distinct accomodations for F passengers. (Maybe it is there behind a concealed door, so the less privileged will not be jealous.)

And BTW, did I say how much I appreciated the free internet in Koru clubs^^^, something that UA doesn't provide in its lounges:td::td::td:?

NZ removed F a couple of years ago. The longhaul (and some trans-tasman flights) has economy, premium economy and premium business.

SYD F lounge was hidden, entrance to the right. Not sure if it still exists (for TG F pax) or whether, like AKL F, has been removed for other uses.

NZ still operates three classes - economy, premium economy, and business premiere. Extensive info. on these in the NZ forum.

Just came back from Shanghai on NZ. Now I can give you guys the correct information. There is no Star Gold lounge at PVG at the moment. I know Star website shows SQ and NH lounges as Star Gold but you will be denied entry with Star Gold card and NZ boarding pass at both lounges. No Star Gold logo there either. NZ uses the contract lounge owned by the airport. Entry is by invitation card given at check-in.

When did that happen? How does the contract lounge compare? I wonder what a (say) UA *G has access to?
