Question Mex - Las ???

Hi All,

I wonder if you guys can help me work out the best Star Alliance way of getting from Mexico City (MEX) to Las Vegas (LAS). This would be on an F redemption from LHR-LAS which includes a stopover in MEX. I'd be taking LH F into MEX, staying for a few days and then looking to get to LAS using premium cabins where possible (seems silly to go in Y when I've already paid the miles for F).

United seems a good option either to LAX or SFO, but then I have to fly on TED into LAS

US Airways/America West is another option via PHX, both flights offer a premium class, but I have no experience of US or AW.

Air Canada might seem like a crazy option, but I could go via YUL or YYZ, but the timings of this means I either have to overnight in YUL or have a long transfer time (7 hours) in YYZ.

Any other ideas I've missed?!?! What would you guys do?

Thanks,
Lewis

PS - Also, annoyingly, the ANA tool is point blankly refusing to show me any award flights ex-MEX Not even showing them as unavailable, simply not showing anything.

Admittedly, I may not be on the ball here (with regards to redeeming *A miles on HP) but can't you get MEX-LAX on UA and then connect onto HP to LAS? Otherwise I'd still take the MEX-LAX-LAS routing but on UA and TED. The LAX-LAS flight is only a 1hr flight and not too unpleasant even if seated in E- on TED. The alternatives are not worth the hassle (ie connecting through CLT, YUL or YYZ).

For your flight out of MEX be sure to pick a premium cabin with plenty of toilets as those flights tend to be full of white-faced gringos stricken with Montezuma's revenge.

what kind of unqualified comment is that?!

hi lewis,

the LAX option sounds the best i think, its really only a short hop to LAS and ted has E+ wich you will get if you are on a F award... anyway, let me know if you go to mexico city, i have friends down there that might be able to help you out with some bar tips!!!

cheers

Not true. While you may be able to convince the agent to give you E+, you will not get it by default. Stupid, but true. See this thread.

ok sorry, let me rephrase that, you are maybe not entiteld to get an E+ seat but in most cases you will get one... i certainly did on many occasions...

What about MEX-PHX-LAS?

What about MEX-PHX-LAS-PHX-MEX

All legs in F on either A319 or A320 on US (HP).

Just wondering why all this talk of Ted through LAX (which is awful for transfers and out of the way from a routing standpoint) when this option is available.

Seriously, confirmed F on HP is better than MAYBE getting E+ on Ted any way you slice it.

Just my 2!
