RTW Plan, need cross-checked

hello *A rtw experts,

This is the itinerary i am contemplating for jan-feb next year. Are there any problems with it or it looks fine ?

KTM-bkk-CMB-bkk-AKL-lax-YYZ-JFK-SFO-LHR-FRA-bkk-DPS-bkk-KTM

where by i need to go to
colombo, Auckland, toronto, newyork (optional), San Francisco, London, frankfurt (optional), Bali and back.

38334 as per Great Circle Mapper, good way to star the year.

I guess i will be on TG, NZ, UA and optionally LH.

what worries me in the above is that i go through Bangkok a total of 4 times - though they are all in transit not stopovers and i do want to fly TG so that i can use those Gold upgrades.

any advice, suggestions welcome. thanks in advance.

You can't make 4 transfers in BKK -- maximum is 3.

Why not fly FRA-SIN-DPS instead of FRA-BKK-DPS?

Or CMB-SIN-AKL instead of CMB-BKK-AKL?

Good way to pick up some SQ segments and reduce the number of transfers at BKK. Mileage-wise it should work out OK.

Have fun on your trip!

Cheers,

Alex

You might be able to keep your original itinerary if you make one of the BKK transits a stopover. The rule says "No more than three transfers permitted at any one city," but it's not clear to me that a stopover would be considered as a transfer; if not, you would have 3 transfers plus 1 stopover.

no its definitely only 3 transfers including a possible stopover... not 3 transfers plus a stopover...

Alex

Need to fly long haul on TG so that I can use those Gold upgrades.

Now, after reading the rules again, i am inclined to do this

KTM-bkk-CMB-bkk-AKL-lax-YYZ-SFO-LHR-FRA-BKK-KTM

(reduced now to STAR2 from STAR3).

and buy a separate BKK-DPS-BKK ticket, or even a BKK-SIN-DPS-SIN-BKK.

Now, anyone can tell me if i can get a e-tix issued for the above RTW ? The above will include TG/NZ/UA/LH and may be AC.

I can't speak for that exact combination of carriers, but I did recently get an RTW e-tix that includes segments on SK/LH/TG/UA/AC/LX, so you'll presumably be OK as long as NZ is hooked in to e-ticketability.

Maybe you could, but why would you want to?

If you ever need to make a change at the last minute, paper is
much more convenient.

Another question would be whether e-ticket is available at all ex-Nepal, though you're probably in a better position to figure that out that we are.

or if CMB is e-ticketable? NZ definitely is.

e-tix ex-KTM is possible.

Yeah!! E-tix ex-KTM is possible. TG have issued me e-tickets, most recently when I used the b'day redemption deal to get to LAX in 22 hrs from KTM. ^ I really like the combination of flights - takes me to SFO from KTM in 24 hrs.

9W also has recently announced e-tix ex-KTM. NW and OS also do e-tix, but to not confuse pax, OS also prints a nice paper ticket.

Yes, I will need to check whether CMB can be on an e-tix, but i was looking at a SIN-CMB in october on SQ website, and it says it's an e-tix possible route, so that should be possible.

Why is it important to have an E-Ticket instead of paper?

Carrying 15 coupons with a spearate page attached to reflect the detailed tax calculations is not my idea of fun. TG still issues the soft tickets, which means 4 ticket books, with all the terms of carriage interleaved in-between.

And of course, not having to visit the CTO or the airport ticket desk in cases where i have to do routing changes, and have to get the ticket or portion of it re-issued.

Also, increasingly many of the Airports i have been to, not having to wait in a long queue for the lone agent who can handle paper tickets, while there are endless numbers of kiosks available. Quite common at the NW terminal in DTW, BD at LHR and even UA at LAX terminal 7.

This trip is fairly straight forward, mostly through star alliance hubs, not involving any unusual places, so don't see what i loose by not having the paper ticket.

Do you have the RTW C fares ex Napal?
What routing would work from Seattle to reach KTM.

TG via BKK. Unfortunately, the departure times for the KTM flights are not so well-timed for US connections.

There is also a flight on OS from Vienna a couple of days a week.
