Does * silver get you United Silver Status

Hi. I know it’s not worth much, but if I have star alliance silver, do I automatically get United Silver? Thank you! Can’t find the answer anywhere.

No, not unless UA is offering a status match from whichever FFP you earned your Star Alliance Silver status with. Otherwise, you get whatever benefits UA affords to Star Alliance Silver elite members.

UA doesn't offer status matches, just challenges, nor does it offer challenges based on status with another *A carrier.

More specifically, at least the two benefits to which all Star Alliance (*A) Silver members are entitled, Priority Reservations Waitlist and Priority Airport Stand-by. UA also offers several benefits to its MileagePlus™ Premier Silver members, such as Economy Plus (E+) seating at check-in, that it does not offer to other *A Silver members. Those two benefits that all *A Silver members receive are set forth on the *A website:

Quote:
.
Priority Reservations Waitlist

If at the time of reservation, seats in your desired class of service are not available, your status gives you higher priority on the waitlist when a reservation is possible, except when you are travelling on an award ticket.

Please note that Priority Reservations Waitlist is subject to individual member carrier’s policy and legal regulations.

Priority Airport Stand-by

If your travel plans change and flights are full, your status gives you higher priority on the standby list for your preferred flight, except when you are travelling on an award ticket.

Please note that Priority Airport Standby is subject to individual member carrier’s fare conditions and legal regulations.

You get BG2 (boarding group2) as star alliance silver, which isn't something that the alliance guarantees but united is just being nice.

https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/tra...g-process.html
(This BG2 is listed in UA benefits. I guess it implicitly gives you carryon bag for domestic BE but don't quote me on that, I haven't seen it in person. No premier access.

Any other star alliance silver benefits is more-or-less useless. You do not get the United silver benefits (e+ at check-in, 70lb bag instead of 50lb, free bag)
SPN Lifer and commaspace like this.
