*A Platinum Tier
I just received my UK *A booklet and will be moving myself back to BMI Gold after just loosing it.
In looking thru the Ts&Cs I found this like <QUOTE> Customers will not obtain Platinum level status </QUOTE> Seems like a new level is coming. - Simon |
Would you mind posting more info on this?
Thanks. StarG |
From the *A Status Match t&c offer targeted at UK residents, there's also a *A Platinum tier reference, directly from the *A website :
Star Alliance Status Match Terms and Conditions This promotion is open for UK Residents only. Validity period 1 February to 15 May 2004. Customers cannot enrol in Singapore KrisFlyer or Mexicana Frecuenta. Applies to the equivalent of Star Alliance Silver and Star Alliance Gold only. Customers will not obtain Platinum level status |
I took this to mean that if I had platinum level of status in another programme that I would only be given the Gold status in the star programme, including those airlines which have a tier above the one which gives the * gold.
Have been rumours about new status before.... |
I think Tall Bloke is right. The point is to make it clear that the highest you can get is *G.
|
Sorry but I read it the other way.
To me it's like UA saying "we'll only comp you to Premier Exec, not to 1K" - it certainly suggests there is a higher tier but you won't get it. Why even mention a tier that doesn't exist unless it does? Unless of course BD has a status level known as plat, and they won't comp to that highest level, in which case it's not a reference to a *P level at all. Just my 2 cents... ------------------ RichardMEL, UA 1K A Star Alliance Member. |
A possible wording might be:
"Any higher tier level above *gold as offered by some *member airlines' individual programx will still be recognized as *gold status." or similar explanation. |
Why did *A decide to have two tiers instead of three? Not that I mind, but just wondering.

The whole problem with STAR is some programs have three elite tiers, others just two. For those with just two, the first tier gets STAR Silver and second/top tier gets STAR Gold. At those with three tiers, the top two get STAR Gold. I would like to see a new top tier at STAR for top tier members of all their FF programs, but that is unlikely to occur. Too many of STAR's airlines no longer offer First Class, and others that do are trimming it back to major routes. This means too many riff raff who would have entry into the very few First Class STAR lounges, which are now kept exclusive by SQ and UA. [Does LH actually have such lounges? If these are the Senator ones, they are the most conjested and poorest in the STAR system.]
All in all, another reason why STAR sucks. |

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by Tall Bloke: Isn't the UA example exactly you refere to what it is saying. i.e. if I choose to comp my status to UA I even if I have a "platinum" level in my current plan I will only get the * gold level i.e. Prem Exec. </font> As for F and the riff-raff. LH's F lounges are the Senator lounges, and I agree, they are terrible. I noticed the Star Gold logo went BACK up next to the SEN lounge in FRA A concourse (it wasn't there back in October). I went in and found the business class lounge better - bigger, less smokey, and possibly even better snacks/drinks - certainly not really worse. It would be nice to have a *P level, but I think the problem with the other programs having only 2 levels (TG is one, LH is another) is the big problem, since they would have no level to give *P privliges to. ------------------ RichardMEL, UA 1K A Star Alliance Member. |
