RTW ticket

This is my first time considering a RTW ticket so I would appreciate any advice/help you guys could give me.

According to Dorian's rtw fare website, the lowest RtwLite seems to be ex-Australia. (As low as $1000 USD during low season as of May 01)

Here's my situation, I am based in Canada but I am willing to 'pre-position' myself in Australia to start the rtw ticket if it is that much cheaper. I will then continue buying the same kind of rtw ticket throughout the year.

I need to make stops in YVR, YYZ & HKG. The more segments there are on AC, the better since I could upgrade those segments.

Initially I've planned:

(AC) SYD-YVR 7741
-- Stopover #1 --
(AC) YVR-YYZ 2078
(AC) YYZ-LHR 3556
-- Stopover #2 --
(?) LHR-HKG 5994
-- Stopover #3 --
(?) HKG-SYD 4556
(Since AN is gone, are there any *A airlines flying between these 2 cities?)

Based on this, i'll still have 4075 miles to play with, i don't mind adding NRT to the itinerary but that will still leave me with couple thousand miles to play with.

What else could I do? If this work, i will be doing this on a consistent basis this year. My goal is to minimize the stopover time besides YYZ, YVR & HKG.

Another thing is, I know that I have to get the ticket from Australia in order to get that fare, any advice on what's the best way to do it from Canada?

You could go via PVR 2199 more miles from YVR and then 2163 miles from PVR-YYZ (still using your upgrade coupons on AC metal). You wouldn't have flown your YVR-YYZ 2075 miles so you could use that to do a couple of days of back and forth on the YVR-YYJ run earning 500 miles for each 40 mile flight (about 50 RTS, or 4 days worth for 25000 miles!) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

. . . you did want to get to SuperElite on 2 RTWs didn't you? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Beware of price increases in the weeks (days?) to come. If you defently will do a Star-rtw in the next 12 months then buy the ticket as early as possible. Itineraries can be changed later.

thanks for the tip about the price rises; ive got in mind to buy one for mid year; ive been planning to buy it direct from UA even tho the opening segment will be SQ; for some reason i think its better if its on UA stationery..am i being ridiculous?

Good one BB.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Sounds good...

Does anyone know what's the best way for me to go about buying this from Canada?

I ticketed a Star Lite RTW with travel.com.au mid week last week for the $2,249 base + tax - I hope these haven't gone up since - otherwise I would try travel.com.au to see if they are still offering the price. I did notice a couple of weeks ago that the RTW section of their site was "under construction".

Andrew Yiu Dec 8, 2001 11:55 pm

Actually it's still showing that price. Do you think they will deliever the ticket to Canada if I paid them with credit card?

Rudi Dec 9, 2001 12:32 am

the Australian price is only valid for rtw tickets starting and ending in Australia (and only for tickets bought in Australia, but 'some' travel agents may send it to an outside address ...).

Andrew Yiu Dec 9, 2001 12:55 am

Can you guys tell me what are the rules for changing RTW tickets before and after travel has started?

Rudi Dec 9, 2001 2:14 am

Please be arare that these rules are not the same for Star-tickets bought in Europe / North America / Australia.

In case you can start your RTW anywhere in Australia, I thought SQ flew Melbourne-Singapore? Then SIN-HKG on SQ again, or reverse if needed.

Rudi Dec 11, 2001 10:22 am

* or TG (via Bangkok)
* or SQ and than OS (Lauda) via Kuala Lumpur

Andrew Yiu Dec 11, 2001 2:05 pm

I suppose if I fly SQ, there is no way I could get myself upgraded unless i have Krisflyer points to use right?

Does anyone know what the rules regarding changes (dates, routings...) are on rtw tickets?
