Star Alliance Comparison Chart
Well here it is on the Star Alliance forum where it belongs.
Note url is not the same as the original on the Buzz. As always, just click on the link. I have re-posted the top tier star alliance chart at: members.home.net/deercroft/star99hi.html the middle tier at: members.home.net/deercroft/star99md.html The combined middle and upper tiers can be found at members.home.net/deercroft/starall.html although this is getting harder to do reasonably in an .html format. I have gone to a slightly different format. |
For those who want the word processor version of the star alliance comparison chart, click on one of the links (Word 6 or Word 97) at the page the link below takes you to and your word processor should open and then you can use your "Save As" to save it to one of your directories. Alternately you can right click on the link and it should ask you where you want to save the file to.

BB: Just a couple of things you may like to add to the SAS entry:
- Upgrade to Gold after 50 Business Class sectors, or 50 full-fare domestic flights. - If you have a SAS Travel Pass (unlimited), like what I have, you are given immediate Gold (+ 50% discount for spouse travel - but that is a different story). - SAS Gold's now have access to all British Midland Lounges in the UK, not just Heathrow. Some minor editing to the chart. I have posted segment based qualifying for all programs for which I have info as well as pluses and minuses for car rentals.
I believe that 500 miles/points per rental is generally a better deal than 50 miles/day or 1 or 2 points/$. Most car rentals are less than 10 days. Besides, you could (the insanity of it aside, and if logistics permit) switch car rental companies every day to get max. use of your 500 mile/day benefit. Questions for my advisors: SAS (I mean only silver) and Thai do not have segment based qualifying? NZ Car Rentals -- under the new scheme, how many points per day and is a flight still required to earn car rental miles (presumably now any * Alliance flight and not just NZ flights)? Thanks again everyone. Looking forward to that oneworld chart too! [This message has been edited by BlondeBomber (edited 04-02-99).] |
Anyone know how to interpret web page stats. Here is the page that has the star chart:
Analyzed requests from Thu-18-Mar-1999 05:20 to Wed-31-Mar-1999 23:53 (13.8 days). Total successful requests: 1,721 Average successful requests per day: 125 Total successful requests for pages: 706 Average successful requests for pages per day: 51 Number of distinct files requested: 29 Total data transferred: 15,303 kbytes Average data transferred per day: 1,111 kbytes Of course that includes Catman's freaky cat and my flag in various posts so maybe the stats aren't as high as I thought. Looks like a lot of people are accessing Flyer Talk though and I guess someone is looking at the chart! |

From Jan/Feb edition of SAS news "You will automatically be upgraded to Gold as soon as you have made 50 trips in Business Class/full fare(?economy) on flights operated by SAS during your personal qualifying period". There are no sector qualifying possibilities for Silver nor on Thai. Addendum:Sorry I didn't and obviously you didn't see Merry's post before your query. Thanks for the info 3544quebec. I meant only silver on SAS and have amended my question.

Okay people - New scoop on Thai's programme.
Thai's Royal Orchid Plus programme does not normally count flight sectors toward their Gold level. Except now. From now till 31st May, not only will you earn extra bonus miles in the Thai Royal Orchid Plus programme, you can also gain Gold Status a lot faster. There is only one catch however. You need to be a resident of the following Asian places: Singapore, HK, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines & Taiwan. For Economy Class flights, you need to fly 15 international sectors or 6 intercontinental flights. The latter would mean from BKK-Europe or BKK-USA or BKK-Australia vv. On top of that, you'd also earn 50% extra miles (but that does not count toward elite status). For Business Class and First Class, you'd need to fly only 10 international flights or 4 intercontinental flights. Business Class flights earn the 25% extra mileage PLUS an extra 100% of the total miles flown. First Class passengers get 50% extra miles PLUS 150% of the total miles flown as well. Royal Orchid Plus GOLD membership lasts 2 years. So if anyone is a member of the above programme, maybe it's time you find a friend or relative living in the countries above and ask if you can use their mailing address for a couple of months and chnage your address before taking advantage of these privileges. Once you attain your Gold status, you can always switch back to yoru home address. |

Are these requirements for STAR Alliance flights or just TG flights? |
BB:
Have posted partner accural info in the Air New Zealand forum, however: Avis/Budget/Hertz all accure "200 points for every full day's car hire". I can't seem to find any mention of the requirment to take this in conjunction with a flight to earn points. |
April 4 update with NZ car rental info. Thanks Gekko! As always, just click on the link.
