Thanks MarkFlynn, additions have now been posted.

BlondeBomber Jul 3, 1999 3:46 pm

just bringing forward for those who haven't seen it yet.

As always, just click on the link.
I have posted the top tier Star Alliance chart at: http://members.home.net/deercroft/star99hi.html
the middle tier at: members.home.net/deercroft/star99md.html

The combined middle and upper tiers can be found at
members.home.net/deercroft/starall.html

It is getting a bit unwieldy but still readable in html.

For those who want the word processor version of the star alliance comparison chart, click on one of the links (Word 6-37K or Word 97-49K) at the page the link below takes you to and your word processor should open and then you can use your "Save As" to save it to one of your directories. Alternately you can right click on the link and it should ask you where you want to save the file to.

Both the Star and Oneworld charts continue to be accessed on a regular basis by numerous people (just checked my web site stats). Just thought that all the chart preparers and others who provided input would like to know that their work continues to provide useful info on an almost daily basis.

BB....didn't see the addition of the extra baggage allowance on all STAR flights (+1 for Gold members)....but then maybe I didn't look hard enough because you are very on top of your charts!

For anyone who hasn't checked these out I highly recommend them!

If any STAR airlines are reading this....I would imagine it is more up-to-date than your own information on your partners!!! (Maybe BB should be on payroll!!)

I have added the baggage allowance to the general heading on the left side of the chart--thanks Dorian.

This may affect all the other baggage criteria in "other bonuses" and may get confusing--if all the contributors could update these for the airlines they are familiar with, it would be helpful to me.

My understanding is that these new allowances, 1 extra piece or 20 kg is on top of whatever you would normally be allowed in the class you are flying. If you were allowed 1 piece, now you get 2 and if you were allowed 2 pieces flying first or business now you are allowed 3. AC SE members are still allowed 2 extra pieces flying on AC (ie. 4 total). The new extra piece does not mean you get 5!

Other than transporting heavy equipment overseas, I seldom use the standard allowance, let alone the extra. But when you need it, it can sure save some big $$$.

With a residence in both Canada and Europe the 4 piece allowance has come in handy MANY times!

BB,

Couple of changes for NZ G and GE upgrades are confirmed at 72 hours not 48 as written. Original system was 48, now changed to 72.

Gold - minuses - previous unused silver upgrade coupons are no longer valid.

Gold Elite - pluses - previous silver and gold upgrade vouchures can be still be used - as long as not past the expiry date.

Hence, keep those silver coupons if you think you will make it to GE!

Onto the baggage rang Airpoints to check, and they had never heard of the star alliance 1 June baggage allowances. Their latest documents state only state that G receive bus. and GE get first allowances and whether it is calculated by weight or piece depends on whether you are flying to/from North America. But they are checking for me. Let you know when it comes through.

Mark

BB - looks like some of your tags are out of whack http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

BlondeBomber Aug 24, 1999 8:50 am

Thanks Jim--fixed now. Thought it worked OK last night but you just can't paste from a previous post--you have to re-edit the [url] /url] code or it won't work. Must have missed a bracket somewhere.

You know the drill, since search isn't working, bringing it forward once again. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Just updating the chart: I need to know about availability of upgrade awards (those that you purchase with points) in each program for the highest two tiers.

UA seems to have the best range of upgrade awards (on UA and LH flights only) even though they are only available on select fares. I need to know if each plan
a)offers upgrade awards and
b) from what fares they are eligible and
c) the range of points required to purchase them
d) the carriers they are offered on (most only apply to the carrier in which the upgrade is being purchased from).

The reason I brought it up is that Rudi had asked me about purchasable upgrade awards on AC (and that got me thinking). AC does not have any "purchasable" upgrade awards--you can only get upgrades on AC by earning them with qualifying flights and can only really use them on any fare if you are a higher level elite. So what about the others--some of you have already passed along some info but I need a few more details (particularly TG and NZ about fare classes that they apply to)?

Here's what I think I know (and most is on the Star Comparison Chart):

TG has one way upgrades for 20-60K on international routes but am not sure if these are full fare economy or any fare.

NZ offers return upgrades for 3500 to 85000 points but am not sure if these are full fare economy or any fare.

SK -- can purchase one-way upgrades for 5000 to 30000 points from any fare.

LH -- can purchase one-way any fare upgrades for up to 30000 points

UA -- can purchase round trip select fare upgrades for 20K to 110K miles (available on UA and LH)

AC and AN do not offer purchasable upgrade awards.

Rudi Sep 21, 1999 6:42 am

UA, since about jan-98 one-way too.
