Pilferage
I don't know if this is the best place to post my pilferage experience, but I was on a SA itinerary.
Last week we flew LIH-SFO-EWR-SNN; first 2 legs on UA, last on CO. When we got home we found someone had opened a checked bag, taken our digital SLR from its bag, and put the camera bag back into the suitcase. The CO luggage agent at SNN said they would send me a pilferage form to fill in, but it isn't here yet. What sort of chance do we have for a claim? BTW, the luggage was off very quickly at SNN. I am guessing it happened at SFO as there was a 12 hour layover. |

Your chance of getting any compensation is nearly nil. There is a reason the airlines warn you not to check valuables. They disclaim responsibility for such. |
Next time you fly with valuables, be sure to put it in the same bag where you have a firearm that is properly declared and checked. Even a starter's pistol is enough to get you this special bag handling.

You really shouldn't check cameras.
