As I'm new into this kind of travel I'd love a bit of advice!
(1) What is your home airport? ZRH (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? Economy, Economy+ (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? 25k-50k (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? No (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Frequent upgrades on travel, free lounge access (6) Which routes do you fly most often Intra-Europe, Kangaroo, Middle-East (7) Preferred Airlines Probably LX because of location (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Work, can book freely amongst airlines but am limited to Y and Y+ Thanks! |
Hi everyone looking for some help
(1) What is your home airport? Chicago O'hare or Midway (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? Coach (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? Probably 25k-75k but I'm new to all of this & if I find this working out and easy to do then that number could very possibly rise. (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? N/A (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? A mix of frequent upgrades on travel & good redemption rates for my points/miles (6) Which routes do you fly most often? US Domestic and also to Asia & Europe. (7) Preferred Airlines? No real preferred airlines, but I've been looking at United (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Both & no I can't All help is appreciated, thanks in advance |

I'm thinking United on Star Alliance based on the airlines, too. Plus Marriott hotels is allied with them and there are plenty of those!
What about American Air on One World? Looking at the flight maps they serve more airports than United, and I can leave out of LGA instead of EWR or JFK. Thanks! |
I know i have asked here before, but i need my ideas to be 'peer reviewed' before doing anything.
(1) What is your home airport? SIN & MEL (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? C and the occasional Y (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? Definitely more than 50k (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? Qantas Platinum (OWE) (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? High value Miles redemption chart, Lifetime status (6) Which routes do you fly most often Intra-asia & Asia-Oceania (7) Preferred Airlines SQ (Currently QF) (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Eclectic mix of work and pleasure Idea is to buy SQ C fares and double dip to get PPS and bank miles in a second mileage program that offers easy access to mileage redemption alliance wide at a good value point as well. I don't use a credit card so miles will be based 100% solely on BIS miles. I am looking at SK EB. The status ladder is pretty easy to climb but is the mileage redemption chart competitive across the alliance? TIA |
Trying to re-evaluate my FFP memberships. Thank you!
I have about 28k miles with AAdvantage, 4k miles with Aeroplan, and 6k miles with China Airlines. (1) What is your home airport? SEA, YVR (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? The cheapest economy fares (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? <25K. Probably average <10K per year, with more lengthy trips every second year. (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? None (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Good award redemption rates. Most of my miles come from trans-Pacific flights, but my miles usually expire before I accumulate enough to redeem an international flight. I don't care much about the extras. (6) Which routes do you fly most often [YVR or SEA] to [NRT and/or TPE]. Also SEA to SFO. (7) Preferred Airlines EVA Air (to TPE), Japan Airlines or ANA (to Japan), Air Canada over U.S. carriers (to/from Canada), anything non-domestic. (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Pleasure. I can choose any airline. |
(1) What is your home airport?
Various LON airports, or anything in south/south west England. (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? (C, F, Y, etc.) (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? (<25K, 25k-50k, >50k) (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? (UA Premier, M&M Senator etc) My only existing FFP is BAEC where I buy a mix of J & Y. Never really flown *A much before, but later this year my parents are flying SQ J from LHR-SYD and return. They are very infrequent travellers and will have no use of the miles and are happy for me to use them, either pooled in a 'household account' a la BAEC, or by them booking rewards flights for me. Any miles earned will be burnt within 12 months. Edit: one leg will probably be CNS - SIN on SilkAir? Which I believe can only be credited to KrisFlyer which may swing the balance to that? (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? (Frequent upgrades on travel, priority services when flying the airline, good award redemption rates, free lounge access, etc.) (6) Which routes do you fly most often (US Domestic, Transpacific etc) Because of this, I'm not worried about gaining any status, this would purely be for redemptions, ideally on short haul European flights in Y or J. (7) Preferred Airlines Miles would be earned on SQ but I'd like to redeem on ideally A3 but LH would be fine too. (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? (Can you choose your airlines, class of service?) All leisure travel. I'm not sure if I'll be better off using the SQ programme and redeeming on A3/LH/etc, or earning direct with A3/LH/etc? |
Does anyone monitor this forum? I note the last few questions haven't been answered, I too need help.

However redemption on A3 is easier, as some flights can be booked directly online. Redeeming on LH is probably the easiest, but it comes at a high YQ cost. |
Best *A Program for AmEx MR Points?
Hi all,
I've signed up for the American Express Premier Rewards Gold card, and I'd like to have an account with each of the major alliances that I can transfer its points to when I want an award ticket. (I've already got Delta Skymiles since I live near DTW.) So, which of their StarAlliance partners would be best for me, out of Air Canada, ANA, or Singapore? I'm not looking for status, just ease of earning and redeeming points (both for tickets and upgrades). Most of my travel would be U.S. domestic with the occasional trip to Europe. I'd lean toward AC since it's closest to home, so to speak, though I'm not sure how much that really matters anymore. I honestly don't know much about any of these programs. |

Just looked into the award redemptions, and ANA is noticeably higher than AC and SQ. Unfortunately, AC miles expire after 12 months of inactivity, and SQ miles expire after 18 months of inactivity and 36 months regardless. This is not so good for an infrequent flyer, as I'd likely forfeit miles earned on a paid ticket. Maybe I'll just skip *A... I've had a couple bad experiences on United anyway...
Btw, for your purpose AC is the best fit. Transfer to SQ only if you want to redeem in F on SQ itself. |

I don't understand your point. You would only transfer the points to AC or SQ just before redeeming, so the expiry in those programs is immaterial to you.

Bonus miles based on status?
Can somebody please enlighten me? I am OW Emerald and used to getting 100% bonus miles (RDM) based on my status. Is there any *A FFP offering the same kind of status bonus for *A Gold?
From what I have read this rather seems to be the exeception within *A? M&M offers 25% (granted this is also a bonus on status miles), A3 20% on it's own metal, similar for OZ, TK only on biz fares (TK metal?), ... If somebody is aware of some kind of overview in this regard, would you be please be so kind to post a link? TIA |

TIA I am not all that familiar with OW programmes but in Star Alliance, UA also offers such bonuses for Premier members: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/con...r/bonuses.aspx |
