System Errors when trying to OLCI

So I tried checking in this morning at exactly 6:30:00am. It took me to the "please choose flight below". I checked the one and only flight available, and pushed the "Check in and print boarding pass" button..... and was rewarded with a gray error box saying:

What happened?
A system error occurred while trying to process your request to check in for your flight.

What you need to do:
Please use your browser's back button to return to the previous page and submit your request again. You may also check in at the departure airport at a Southwest Airlines Skycap Podium, Ticket Counter, or RAPID CHECKIN kiosk to obtain Boarding Pass or Security Document before proceeding to the security checkpoint.
I pressed back, tried to check in again. Same thing. Repeat about 20 times. By the time it finally let me in, it was 6:37am, and I ended up with A52. That's more than a little annoying...

Well, I used OLCI at the exact same time this morning--Mrs. SWABrian and I are traveling to PDX on regular tickets tomorrow. The system worked fine, so I have to think it may have something to do with your Internet providers connection.

After I wrote that, it dawned on me that we might be in different time zones. It could be that we had a glitch if you were checking in at 0530 Eastern.

I've also experienced this, though thankfully not recently.

Hmmmm, not A-list? Or are employees not allowed to be A-list even if they fly enough? ;)

I would guess they could be, but most employees probably do not fly 32 paid one-way trips.

One would think that SWABrian could get SWAVictor to sneak him in at t-24:30:D

Nope not A-list. Yes if Employees purchased tickets and flew enough they would be A-list, but most are probably like me either fly standby or purchase a ticket for vacation during summer or the Holidays.

I checked in at 6:30am EDT.

I find it absurd to suggest that a problem with my internet provider resulted in SWA giving me a "System error" message. If my browser timed out, or I couldn't connect to southwest.com, then I would agree with you. But me browsing the web and using other applications at the same time, and pushing the submit button and receiving a "system error" from Southwest? No, sorry, that's not my ISP.

I got quite a few of those error messages when booking 10 or so reservations late last night. There was definitely a shortage of horsepower at Southwest's end.

You're allowing me way more power than I actually have:)
The reservation system enforces the 24 hour checkin, so I cannot force an earlier checkin even if I wanted to.

mritty - PM me with your confirmation number, and we will see if we can figure out what caused the issue. I'm not aware of any specific outages but sometimes one reservation can have a problem . .that eventually clears. When those things happen I like to try to figure out what it was so that we can prevent the same issue from happening in the future.

No promises on being able to get to the answer - sometimes computer glitches just happen - but I'd be happy to take a look at it for you.

Geez mritty, did you not read my entire post? I went back and clarified that you were on an hour earlier than I was, and that it looked like a mistake on our end. (And, I meant 0530 Central Time.) I was just trying to be helpful and it backfired.

This happened to me (in Firefox) a few weeks back. After about the third "error", I quickly jumped over to IE and got my BP on the first try. I went back to Firefox and it continued to give me the error.

So - IMHO - the problem back then was something on my end.

I always cringe when I see FT'ers trying to rip SWABrian or SWAVictor a new one. These guys dedicate a LOT of their free time and are a valuable addition to our corner of Flyer Talk. Maybe Brian meant browser and typed ISP. All he did was point out that he did OLCI at the same time you did and had no problems, therefore he didn't think it was the SWA system.

I need to learn to shut my mouth. I just got nailed by this error.

I did read your entire post. I apologize if you think I was being rude (or as someone else put it, "ripping you a new one"). That was not my intent. I was trying to clarify which time and timezone I was talking about. Seeing as you did typo your timezone, your message did not look to me like it said "it was a mistake on your end". It looked like it said "It might have been a mistake on our end if and only if you didn't check in at 6:30 Eastern". And I was pointing out that the notion of "it must have been a problem with your ISP" was illfounded. If that's offensive, please accept my apologies.
