WN devalued points to 83 per $ without notice 4/14/2021

VFTW blog reports it is now 83 per dollar against the base fare, devaluation of around 6%.

I have not double-checked.

Seems to be true. Southwest is just another airlines these days. No real advantage now with all airlines doing no change fees.

This is disappointing. Southwest is still losing the race to the bottom, but I wish they would drop out of that race.

What a rotten move--SO SOON after encouraging us to convert travel funds to points as a result of Covid cancellations.

That was over half a year ago, along with a great rate for converting. You earned multiples over what you would have received for flying on that same fare especially for WGA. That's not taking into account the additional benefits of the points themselves.

Yea... looking back, maybe I should have just left them alone and not converted. Oh well... $hit happens.

Another sneaky devaluation sucks but a 6% loss beat a total loss from TTF expiration. Or was it a conversion in lieu of a cash refund?

I predicted an eventual devaluation when the crisis first started but others said no way, they wouldn't want to risky the goodwill. Even after taking our taxpayer handouts. Ha!

I just did some spot checks and it does appear that 83/$1 is the new 78/$1.

Yikes.

Didn't RR 2.0 begin at 60 PPD? Creeping ever so closer to: just cash it out for gift cards.

Yes, it was initially 60/$1.

Unfortunately, gift card redemptions are now limited to only those with a Chase Rapid Rewards Visa card, and have increased in cost significantly as well.

150/$1 is the new 100/$1.

Ursine1 - Any idea if those allow non-southwest gift card redemptions?

There is a selection of cards available from other merchants. Pricing is similar.
