As I type this it's 91 degrees in Vegas at 6pm...........high around 90 the rest of the week.

Bars are open but not nightclubs, most restaurants. I think a few shows open soon. It's slow during the week but busier on weekends. It's still vegas but a bit different with the masks and the airport being so slow

The bad parts of Chicago aren't exactly vacation hotspots and the problems on the Vegas strip are recent developments that not all may be aware of.

I haven't been to Vegas since covid but pre covid not once did I not feel safe.

The stories I'm hearing from people who have visited Vegas recently tell a different story.

I have lived in Chicagoland since 1994. Sure, before last year we all knew what places to avoid. But even many of the “good” spots are now bad. It’s beyond belief.

I am worried about taking the train to Michigan Ave to walk a couple blocks to the Blue Line to ORD. My wife had to go downtown to her dentist and I was worried every minute. The idiot mayor has completely abandoned her job responsibilities to pander to thugs.

So sad. One of the world’s great cities has become lawless.

Before this gets moved to Peanut gallery or Omni, I need to say that i completely disagree with you. I think the mayor has done an excellent job in a difficult situation and I am amazed at your fear, which I believe to be unfounded.

There have been Vegas areas, especially downtown, that have been dangerous for as long as I’ve been visiting (late 70’s).

As someone who spends half the year in Chicago and half the year in Vegas, I agree 100%.

I'll ignore all the P/R crap and just ask....11 days in Vegas?!?!? :eek: The only way I could possibly fathom this is maybe if I were using it as a base for daytrips out to hiking, running, biking, etc destinations like Red Rocks....but even then I wouldn't choose Vegas.

What are you going to do for 11 days there, especially with so many things not open? Have you considered maybe 3-4 days in Vegas and then renting a car for a week and seeing other things in the Southwest? I mean, most people seem to get their Vegas fill in 48-72 hours...

Yes but the problems lately have been on the strip and inside major hotels such as MGM Grand and Encore.

Cosmopolitan is using metal detectors and changed the rules so that on Friday and Saturday you have to be a hotel guest or rewards member to enter the casino.

Vegas as a whole has always been dangerous but the problems are normally kept off the strip

That's new to me, we usually take a trip to Chicago to see the Yankees play the Wsox (or Cubs Some years) and meet up with a lifelong friend who owns Piece Pizza and brewery on North Ave.

If true that means there are spots in Chicago and Vegas that were once safe that have problems today although I will say I never ventured out at night in Chicago and was always more on guard in Chicago than I am in Vegas.

Circa partially opens next week, personally I could spend a month at that pool and sportsbook, lol

I spent a week in Vegas earlier. As a tourist it's definitely not as exciting due to COVID restrictions, but like the OP I think you just want to get away from the same ole home. I will be visiting again to do the 'work from Vegas' type package (I was doing that before it was a thing) which makes it pretty easy -- I am busy eight hours a day doing the same thing I do when I work from home, and then I have evenings to go enjoy a nice meal (used to maybe a show or some gambling in pre-COVID days).

Like others been visiting multiple times a year for a long time (decade for me) and I will also saw that it definitely feels less safe than normal right now. Normally I don't rent a car and spend half my trip walking around the Strip and the half outside -- this time, its a car the whole week, because a) cars are much cheaper b) parking is free again everywhere and c) I will be minimizing my time on the Strip (even though I still stay there because of the deals!)

Hope the OP and others enjoy their vacation -- this year, many of us can't be picky!

Going for a weekend the first of Dec just to see this.
