For some reason SW isn't advertising this promotion, but my family and friends that signed up in the last 2 days have gotten it.

I assume it's targeted as it'd only apply to less than one half of one percent of the US population. How'd you find out about it, e-mail from Southwest?

lol I can see why you'd be skeptical, but it's not targeted, unless you count the whole state of Hawaii. I found out about it from some couponista friends of my wife. The only exclusion is the member name cannot have previously been a SW RR member.

So you don't have to be a resident of Hawaii?

I wonder if one can just sign up for multiple accounts with different names and then transferring the points to one account?

I'm sorry I didn't communicate this offer clearly enough. Please just read this post regarding the offer: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/hi-on...t-5000-points/

Log out and log back in. If that doesn't work, wait 24 hrs. It should show up.

$50 for 5000pts isn’t too bad when you basically get a fully refundable ticket.

It's not terrible, but I think I'd rather just use the points directly from the new accounts for free. Plenty of flights available for fewer than 5k points. I wouldn't pay much to have the points in a particular account given that they don't count towards CP.

Looking at the Low Fare Calculator over the past month, these OAK/SJC - HNL flights seem to have great last minute prices, but expensive the further you go out; and that seems to have been the case week after week of watching. Maybe the dynamic is; lots of people bought OAK-HNL originally on a whim, and as they get close to flight day they realize they can't go and cancel? Seems unique how the pricing is going.

The other possibility is that Southwest misjudged demand and they aren't selling as many seats as they thought at the higher prices. This is a new market with very different dynamics than the US domestic market, although I think it might be similar to the Caribbean markets.

The SJC-HNL inaugural had a surprising amount of festivities seeing that it was just a new route as opposed to a new city. Balloons and live hawaiian music at the gate. We were given gift bags, blankets, luggage tags, first flight certificates, cookies, and SJC-HNL rubber duckies. Recognized a few WN Corporate executives at the boarding gate.

Station manager in HNL took it upon herself to distribute cake for the first HNL-SJC nonstop. It was a great sight seeing 3 WN planes side by side in HNL--WN is slowly taking over!

Now we're just waiting on the inaugural WN HNL-KOA this weekend.
