MCO Security/Train Changes
 

First time I have been to MCO since February of this year, and now they have these security guards opening and closing ropes at the train doors and have everyone corralled before being allowed to enter the trains at TSA screening with all these temporary walls.

What in the world changed, and does anyone know why?

This has been like this for years as when INTL flights arrive the exit from customs is right at the tram station and without those PAX reclearing security the inbound train is considered not secure and the outbound train to the gates is considered secure. (Sorry if this sounds confusing; I couldn’t think of a better way to word it)

That's a pretty good description of the situation and like you say is not new at all. It will not change until the new expansion is complete and they move the customs to the new part of the airport.

I would love to go back to the old days prior to the terminal, where you drove up to the quonset "hut", parked your car, walked to the ticket counter and got on the plane. Obviously, it's not going to happen.

Yupp. This is not new. I've seen it at MCO more than once.

A kinda sorta similar thing happens here at PIT. With this, people can now take larger bags with them when they clear Customs onto the tram and exit the airport, as opposed to before, all bags had to go thru TSA security screening for liquids, contraband, etc., so, larger bags had to be rechecked, then pax had to wait a second time at the regular baggage carousel for their bags, which could take a while, as the bags weren't carted to baggage claim til they had a full load.

But this could be good if DL gave the 2500 RDM guarantee whenever the bags are late after the "recheck" after an international arrival into PIT.

If it's like Pittsburgh, they only have that operation going on when an international flight arrives til the last pax is confirmed to have left the secure area, so, you wouldn't always see it.

I'm pretty sure the bags on time guarantee doesn't apply to Int'l flights.
