Hmm, I flew LAX-ICN-AKL in J, and had the new seat LAX-ICN but an old seat for 11hrs ICN-AKL. Of course the old seat is vastly inferior, but I was comfortable enough to sleep most of the way without noticing a bar in my back. Different versions perhaps.

I agree with the serving sizes of all liquids (perhaps preemptive terrorist avoidance!), but never came across a crew that wasn't around the whole time and happy to serve me more of whatever I wanted to drink.

I'm not sure your F from Japan to ICN can really be used as a comparison point to AF F service as that's pretty much a short-haul flight. Although it sounds like I got better service ICN-NRT/NRT-ICN in J than you did in F... In J, at least, the food selection was much more limited on those shorthauls as well (so I finally chose to try the bibimbap, which was excellent so I ended up having it on the return as well!)

I will hopefully be flying AF CDG-GIG in J (assuming award availability on any reasonable day in a two week window next month) so I'll be able to make a proper comparison then.

Last year I booked an AF F award US-South Africa for 160K with DL Skymiles. By looking at the website, I can do the same today. The AF F flights were nothing to write home about.

DL members used to be able to book AF F awards, but I don't think they can any more. AFAIK, it's not written anywhere, but try calling and see what happens when you request it.
