That reminds me of the movie "Die Another Day" The Chinese spys put a camera behind the mirror in James Bond's hotel room so they could spy on him. Maybe you know some trade secrets?

I recently stayed at the Four Seasons in Seattle and they had a TV in the mirror that sounds exactly like you described. Once you turn it on, it looks like this:
