Decent Beach to visit
Could anyone recommend a beach to visit during a weekend in SIN? Just looking for a place to swim and aren't looking for a lot of extras. Main thing is quality of water. Here is a list of beaches found in the forum and elsewhere.
Sentosa, isn't worth the time?
East Coast and the Southern Islands, boat service from World Trade Centre.
Changi Beach, close by
Pasir Ris Park, day trip?
Thanks for any info.

You're out of luck -- Singapore is tiny, all the beaches have pretty much identical water, and that water is fugly. If it's swimming you want to do, best book a hotel with a good big swimming pool.
The nearest beach getaway is Bintan, 45 min by ferry, but this time of year the ride will be choppy, the weather rainy and the water murky there too. (And water visibility is not very good even in midsummer.)

As a frequent visitor to SIN I agree with this poster's assessment of the beaches.
Good luck and have fun.

Are you coming to SIN soon? If yes, then you really need to scrap Beach off! Its been raining alot! Not much soon, just wet. I agree with jpatokal and 747LWW that there are better beaches elsewhere. The water is murky mainly because of shipping.
In any case, have fun!

Here is one alternative....the Shangri-la resort, Rasa Sentosa, is directly on a private beach area on Singapore's Sentosa Island and they have a gorgeous, hugh swimming pool just adjacent to their beach area. This facility is just spectacular! Amenities include a pooside bar, snacks, and now (or soon-to-be completed) an upscale restaurant between the swimming pool and beach with ocean views, as I understand it. (This is a great place to spend your SIN weekend in my opinion if you like water. The hotel is reasonably priced, especially for a resort, the views of the pool area are tropical and especially great in the evening, the dinning is nice, the staff is friendly and helpful.
Give it a try...check the Shangri-la site for details and rates-- www.Shangri-la.com ---If you need more info, send me a Private Message.
Have fun in beautiful, friendly Singapore.
