Early PPS requalification

I just requalified for PPS 10 weeks into my qualification period. SQ's website shows 25.0 sectors earned during the qualification period and 0.0 needed. Will SQ send me a new membership kit and card early or at the end of the qualification period?

StarG Jul 13, 2004 6:00 am

The new card and kits will be sent to you at the end of this qualification period. They won't be sent to you early.

Kiwi Flyer Jul 13, 2004 1:19 pm

Definitely not immediately on requalifying based on my experience earlier this year.

zvezda - are you doing the CMB run and how far to go now until solitaire?

I'm sitting on 50 status credits for the current qualification period and not received a new card or kit. (I was on 25 credits in January.)

Maybe this quote helps to understand PPS renewal criteria:

As a PPS Club member, you enjoy the status for a 12-month period, regardless of whether you exceed the number of miles required, or achieve the quota in less than 12 months.

According to the web site, my renewal period was must get to 25 credits by end of Oct 31 - to be valid to Oct 31 2005.

On the 1st Aug, they changed me from QPPS2 to QPPS3. This qualifying year was only 9 months not 12.

I now have 15 months to get my next 25 credits.

So sometimes they do shorten the year.

Does anyone know if this is the uaual practice? i.e. to renew PPS after 9 months if you have enough credit to renew. What would happen during the following year when you have 15 months to requalify? Does SQ renew your PPS if you have enough to requalify after 9 or 12 months?

I doubt it. I requalified months ago but no change to my PPS qualification period and status, and not expecting any until the end of my current period.

Similar thing just happened to me. I needed the 25 sectors/50K miles to requalify by February 28 '05. I got the necessary sectors sometime in September, if I recall correctly. Nothing changed for a couple of months (i.e., I was still QPP3), but in December my status has been changed to QPP4 and the online account balance has been reset, so it now shows I need the required miles to requalify by February 28, 2006. So I now have an extra 3 months to requalify. I seem to recall this happened before, so maybe it is standard practice.

They do that regularly, I was requalified just this October with 15 sectors when my requalification period only ends this month, allowing me to accumulate 10 sectors towards next year's requal instead of having it "wasted" on this year's.

In fact other than my initial qualification for PPS, all my subsequent requals have kicked in at about 15 sectors, and I get the extra couple of months buffer which is kinda nice.

Kiwi Flyer Dec 12, 2004 9:20 pm

Hey they have for me as well. ^ I should stop being so sceptical :D

Now my next SQ trip is before what used to be the end of qualifying period, and is more than 12.5 credits (and I have plenty carry over for averaging), so does this mean I wont need any more SQ biz/first flights for more than 12 months after that?

Note I had enough credits more than 6 months ago so maybe it is something they only review occassionally rather than automatic?

Kiwi Flyer Dec 12, 2004 9:28 pm

I notice that under sectors to requalify it says 25.0 and not 12.5 that I was expecting (under averaging rule). Should I be worried?

fimo Dec 12, 2004 9:43 pm

The sectors to requalify number will always start out with 25, I believe it's just the system default. But obviously when it comes to actually assessing requalification the algorithms take your sectors history into account and kick in when you've hit some magic mark.

But secret lah - SQ cannot let you know too much for you may then game the system!

Kiwi Flyer Dec 12, 2004 9:47 pm

Cheers. Looks like I have plenty of time anyways.

Nine months?

I accumulated 40 sectors in the first three months since I requalified. My qualification period ends April 30. I just checked and they haven't renewed me yet. Perhaps they check exactly nine months after qualification? I'll try to remember to pay attention to see whether they requalify me January 31.

In the meantime, has anyone noticed having been requalified in less than nine months?
