Last week they sent me up to use either the Thai or United lounge. I think premium plaza was still an option but I fancied some Thai food so I used the TG lounge. They used gate 64 so pretty convenient.

The *A lounge options at HKG are an embarrassment.
Should improve when UA opens a Polaris lounge, though I don't know that there's a specific schedule for that yet.

I suppose it's not a terribly long closure but is it really so difficult for SQ to arrange access to the Plaza Premium First lounge over by Gate 1 for at least QPPS/TPPS?

I thought *A (and tbh OW, too) has a pretty good lounge offering at HKG.
I mean consider their other Asian hubs or major cities, ICN, NRT, TPE, there don't seem to have more varieties than HKG (maybe except BKK?)
The shower room thing I remembered they were closed when I visited late last year. But when I was there in March, they went back for operations.
One thing I was really surprised is they didn't have the notice up early. At least I don't think there had been any notices when I visited SKL@HKG in Marh and early April.
Nonetheless, it really amazed me that SQ managed to move all its flights from their usually reserved gates around East Hall all the way to West Hall. Really impressive. (unlike EVA doesn't seem to be able to reserve convenient spots) Thumbs up to SQ.

Moving all the gates just due to a lounge issue seems unlikely to me. I checked today's flights. The SQ flights departed from gates 7, 9, 7, 24, 5, 24, 7. SQ2 doesn't have a gate yet :-). Doesn't appear the flights have been moved from their usual gates - at least not today.

I've been to all three of these lounges, UC and SQ many, many times (TG I visited once and never found any reason to return). And yes, they fall far below the competition, i.e., the CX lounges at HKIA. They are also inferior to the *A options at BKK and NRT, to name two comparable Asian airports. I also find them inferior to LH Bus or Sen lounges in major airports where LH has a lounge.
