CMB Update
I decided to try a turn in CMB end of next week. I bought a ticket via singaporeair.com CMB-SIN-LAX return. I have a reservation SIN-CMB as well.
Because it appears impossible without help to do a same day turnincluding customs, ticjeting etc., I faxed the airport ticket counter twice asking for help. I also faxed the city ticket office, again twice, asking for help. I also e-mailed. Nothing has been replied to in three days now. Does anyone have a helpful e-mail contact in Singapore from someone at SQ that may lend a hand? After today I will have to cover myself with a full fare ticket. Or... any other ideas? |
not sure your exact question.
anyway, check with SQ in SIN if you can do return check-in (RCI) in SIN for your CMB-SIN sector. if so, then i would think it may be possible to just step off the aircraft in CMB then go straight back to the departure area without clearing customers/immigration?? good luck and do post the outcome. |
I did much the same as this back in July. I had booked CMB-SIN-ICN-SFO and return as one ticket and SIN-CMB and return as another.
Like you, I was concerned about picking-up the CMB originating ticket during the 1h25 turn-round, so booked a night in Colombo. On the return (when I had the ticket in my hand for CMB-SIN) it was easy to follow the 'Transit' signs and collect the boarding pass without passing through immigration and customs. The CMB station manager for SQ was very pleasant and efficient, and I suspect that you would not have problems collecting the CMB originating ticket at the transit desk. I seem to remember someone else posting earlier this year that they had done exactly this, and the station manager was waiting for him as he arrived with the ticket ready printed. Best wishes for your trip. |

IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFO AS TO HOW TO GET A HOLD OF HIM PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I'M TICKETING FULL FARE FOR LACK OF RESPONSE FROM CMB. |
First, I have never been to CMB.
I believe Live2Fly was probably referring to a post by Jiffy who did a turn earlier. However, he had a 12 hour layover and took a city tour, the station manager was probably waiting for him in the check-in area, landside, not the transit area. I don't know if it is possible to arrange to have ticket pick up in the transit area in CMB. I have been to other airports where transit desks have no way of ticketing for anyone. It is probably a GSA, not SQ, who staffs the transit desk. The GSA will be able to check you in, but probably not process ticket for SQ. SQ would have to send someone from their check-in desk into the transit area to bring you the ticket, if that's possible. Sorry, I don't have better information, but I am very interested in learning how it works for you as I am comtemplating one myself. Please let us know and good luck! if i understand correctly, your concern is regarding ticket collection in CMB? if so, is it not possible to e-ticket from the SQ website?
then i still don't understand how this lack of outcome is prompting you to purchase a full-fare SIN-CMB?? |
CMB is not an e-ticket station. If you purchase ticket on SQ web site, it will tell you to pick up paper ticket at CMB 2 hours prior to departure.

I am doing a similar trip later this month. My flight is SIN-CMB-SIN with a 1:25 stopover in CMB.
SQ told me that I can collect my CMB-SIN boarding pass in SIN before I travel to CMB, effectively checking me in for the return flight before I arrive in CMB. I wanted to make doubly sure the information was correct so I phoned SQ back on another day and spoke with a different agent. Both agents concur. I can't see what the problem is... ------------------ Latitudes. For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. Sorry, I am kinda new to this CMB thing.
I tried the SQ booking engine for CMB-SFO return. I couldn't believe what I saw - J class fare (full published) is around half what J class special fare is for CGK-SFO. Has CMB been a public secret for low fares? How do you make it work? StarG |
ok but i still don't understand how this is solved by buying a full-fare ticket?
|
I heard back from SQ in CMB.
Background: In order to get the low fare you must do several things. Booking: Reservation must be made either through an agent or SQ in CMB, or via the SQ website. Ticketing must be in CMB I purchased my ticket CMB-LAX-CMB via the website. Business Class for US$1,500.00. I paid with my Visa (Am Ex wasn't an option) but it is NOT an e-ticket and must be picked up in CMB. I faxed and e-mailed both the CTO and airport in CMB and after three days heard back from the assistant City Ticket Office reservation manager. He said they would have the paper ticket waiting for me at the "transit desk" and all I would have to do is show my credit card to pick it up. My fax to him carefully explained I was doing a turn to save money and that I only had the one hour. Unfortunately, during the three day time period I panicked and bought a full fare ticket home ex-SIN. Now, my lfight to LAX is full in C so I can't rebook. Therefore I will not be able to report back on how smoothly this will all work this trip. The good news is CMB is willing to work with us on this and it is possible for a turn. I do not want to publicly post the e-mail address for the manager at the CTO but anyone who wants it I'll e-mail it to. |
LAOCA,
Glad that you got through to SQ in CMB. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Sorry to hear that it is too late for you this time. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Please email me, my email to you bounced. |
Any idea what the fares are for Star Alliance RTW ex-CMB?
