J class drinks menu - how much does it vary between flights
Hi - does the J class drinks menu vary between flights of different lengths (thinking about the cocktails and champagne type) I was wondering whether a Sydney to Singapore flight is different to a Hanoi to Singapore flight. Thanks

IIRC some of the wine choices may not be available on short-haul versus long-haul. For example, I do recall having a certain Riesling I liked on a long-haul ZRH-SIN flight in J and then on SIN-DPS a few weeks later they said that they don't have that on the short flight and only had a Chardonnay from the long-haul options I think. Similar with some of the red wines if I'm not mistaken.

Note that SQ often picks some wines for certain routes based on country of origin. A California cab or chard on a USA route, a Shiraz on an Aussie route, a Riesling on a Germany route, etc.; these complement the standard offerings, which are mostly French. So if you're on one of those routes and transiting to an intra-Asia short haul, quite likely that at least some of the wines will change.

I rarely take SQ short haul, but recall some cocktails (eg. Awaiting the Golden Dawn, etc.) wasn't available in short haul some years back.

Do people enjoy the wine selections on SQ? I'm not much a wine expert, my situation is very much black and white, I like it or I don't. I usually prefer white wine to red wine, but in most cases on SQ I prefer their reds, don't know what this means.
Also, in my experience, is vary rare to get a sauvignon blanc on SQ (my preference for white), but I guess that is something for the masses and not something that would please those who actually take their wines seriously. ;-) |
Thanks everyone for your replies. I dpn't drink wine apart from the champagne so I was more interested in the variances in that and the cocktails

The printed menus show the same drinks except for some wine options. You can see a lot of SQ menus in the FT all airline menu thread.

Yesterday, SQ served 2014 Yealands Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, in Business on SIN-BKK-vv routes, along with a white Burgundy. And in SKL T3, they were serving Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, which was far better than the bland Chablis on offer.
