What is Alaska's same day stand-by policy

Does Alaska Air allow same day standbys for an earlier flight? If so, how long before the flight do they clear them?

Alaska does allow this but not on all fares. IIRC, Web Specials and some "IO" fares do not allow same day standby. Check the fare rules for your specific ticket or just call and ask. When I have done this, I have been cleared onto the flight at varying times. If the flight is less than 50% full, I have been cleared at check in. If the flight is more full than that, it usually happens just before the door closes.

As a gold, at the airport, simply ask and you shall probably have an agent consider your request. My few requests in that regard have generally been successful.

Also watch out for fares with a "TR" (or "TS"?) in the code, which have time-restrictions. Standby is allowed, but only for flights within the permitted times. (Though if there are plenty of seats available the gate agents will often let you slide.)

Thanks ! I'm hoping to standby for the earlier flight SFO-PDX , and spend a few hours in PDX while waiting for my ANC flight.

Actually..not so much a winner.

Your Fare Basis code is TA14FSN

Flight specific fares are generally tied to a specific flight number or a time range...more often than not late at night or very very early in the morning. If you'd like to PM me with date of purchase, I can find out for sure.

I think this was the cheapie SFO-ANC that required a PDX connection. No other day/time restrictions were in place.

then you should be fine for standby.

The only other caution is that voluntary stopovers are not permitted. If you standby early..its entirely possible that they will clear you all the way to ANC on the earlier PDX-ANC nonstop.

But you have to stay along the same route, right (i.e., no SFO-SEA-ANC)?

If that's the case, the number of viable PDX choices is going to be a limiting factor. There are far fewer of those than via SEA.

There are 3 nonstops PDX-ANC for the summer, so the "longest" connection (3 hours) is the evening flight..which presumably the OP is already on.

Yes, I am on the flight that has the 3 hr 45 minute layover in PDX. I was considering standing by for an earlier flight that same day so that I could spend the day in Portland before heading on to ANC. I believe I can choose to only standby for the first flight, and not the second? Any one have experience with this? Otherwise, I don't mind getting to ANC earlier... 1:30 am arrival in ANC was a little late for my taste anyhow
