BA Redemption on IB Seat Assignment

Just booked IB MAD-JFK on business with BA Avios. I can't seem to self-assign seat. Thoughts?

Whens the flight? On IB, seat selection typically opens about 10 months out.

You need to do seat selection on the IB site. If you click on seat selection on the ba site it should show you the different booking reference for IB which you use on the IB site.

Both points important here. If a year out then it is too early.

If not,Two options. Go to BA MMB and get the iberia code to use on website or get the Iberia App and add your BA PNR. It finds these ok these days.

You should be able to select no issue

I too was flummoxed by this problem when I first booked an IB flight with BA Avios. Others have already posted the reason why, timing of seats availability.

The good news is that, if you calculate the dates/time correctly you can plan to go into MMB exactly at the right time to get your best chance of the seats you want.

I quite like the middle pair in row 3 when traveling with wife. Nearer enough to front for quick service but not at the front where they store stuff on the front bulkheads. Also the seats are best for couples who want to hold hands

when alone I go for one of the seats closest to window.

Be aware that any flight changes might break the ability to select seats though. In our case the feeder changed from IB Express to Mainline and I couldn't get either Iberia or BA to get the reservation back into a place where I could reselect seats. We could move after checkin, but at that point most of the seats were auto-assigned to those with no pre-selection privileges.

That is a risk, but maybe not unique to IB.
