Jetstar handbaggage
Hi — I have a flight booked from Brisbane to RAR. On most flights I have taken on Jetstar you can pay more for 14KG of hand luggage instead of 7. However, on this flight there is no upsell option. If I bring more than 7 to the airport will I be forced to check my baggage? Will there be an option at the airport to pay more for hand baggage? Will it be extremely expensive?

Very helpful replies.
Yes, I bought with no checked baggage because I hate checking bags!
So it seems I have some chance of not getting hit with the fee…as I’m flying internationally, but from BNE I imagine more likely they weight at the gate? Question is if I’m willing to risk $175! Is the 175 AUD I assume?

For JQ international ex AU & NZ have never seem JQ weigh at the gate. But does not mean it does not/will not happen.
For JQ AU & JQ NZ domestic have seem them sometimes weigh at the gate.
Just buy some checked luggage allowance for BNE RAR

This thread should not exist because the answer honestly is just that simple.

CHC is safe enough that you can leave your bag unattended while you check in so they cant weigh it!

If your concern around checking bags is the waiting time to collect them, RAR is a tiny airport usually handling one flight at a time; the choke point (longest wait) seems to be immigration so likely your bag will be waiting for you once you’re through

Is 7kg really too heavy?
So are you arguing therefore that QF and JQ should adopt the policy that many US carriers use that as long as you can lift it unassisted into the overhead bin then it is allowed (size limits of course still apply)?
That would seem to be the logical outcome of your question. Because otherwise what exactly is too heavy?

I'm suggesting that adhering to the policy is better than attempting to violate it.

Qantas OTOH have a very restrictive policy that is apparently poorly enforced, so it seems to be a lottery.

here to burst the bubble but Jetstar does not enforce it consistently. As much of a lotto as QF IMO
