EC-NXD incident at GYE (left wing contact with ground vehicle)

EC-NXD, an A350-900 (NEXT cabin variant), has been reportedly involved in a minor collision at GYE (Guayaquil, Ecuador) today while taxiing to leave for MAD.

It was receiving a water cannon salute and there's video of the incident in which the left wing makes contact with one of the fire engines. The plane returned to the gate and is now more than four hours delayed leaving GYE.

Hopefully it's not put out of service too long and they'll be on their way shortly.

Video here:

Flight officially cancelled for the day. That's going to be an annoying one to sort out for IB, and they're now down one of the NEXT 359s at an outstation.

Looks like it took a chunk out of the left winglet. Unlikely to be a quick or easy repair given it's carbon fibre.

How long was OCR stuck in Lima Pisco?

Added: 10 days? June 2 to 12...but that's a remote airport...

Next GYE flight isn't till the 7th too. I assume they'll book stranded passengers via UIO.

How mad must IB executives be when it was the f-ing water cannon salute that put the new plane out of service!

Has EC-NXD already flown back to MAD?
Read this Tweet this morning that they were still fixing the issue

And my flight for tomorrow evening has been allocated to NXD now ,but seems still stuck at GYE at the moment.

I would be very surprised if NXD is back in service that quickly. I presume once it's fixed it'll return to MAD but then get another look over at home base before it's put back into rotation.

Back in the air with a shiny new (all white) winglet on the port side. The entire piece must have been shipped out and replaced in under a week, that's pretty impressive...
