Seat swap / Booted out of 777-200/300 J forward mini cabin to the dorm.

I appreciate this is quite whiny but I'm venting.

My other half and I are both BA Gold....go to check in to our Club flights to East Coast US tomorrow and without any heads up (no email etc) our seats (booked for months, window seats in mini cabin behind First) have been moved to centre pair at back of main Business cabin.

Same for our return flight in 10 days time.

Called BA and got "sorry, computer says no" response.

Thing is, it's the same 777-200 aircraft, it's not like we've gone from 777 to 787.

Anyone know why this would happen, including to our return in 10 days (again, still a 777-200).

Not the end of the world, but annoying, also because of the couldn't care less attitude to two Golds. (Yes, I know, verging on DYKWIA territory.)

A, thanks for listening to this venting but B, does anyone in the know why this would happen, when it's the same aircraft type. Seems like a computer has done it, no involvement from a human, which speaks volumes.

Sorry to read that this has happened to you both. The changes will probably fall under the amorphous 'operational reasons/needs' excuse.

Seeing as all 777 (LHR at least) are Club Suite now, not sure what the issue is ?

Window seats in the front mini-cabin of 3 rows versus middle seats at the back of the dorm section. On both legs of their trip...

Yes, it's a mystery why the OP is venting here...

I really don't understand why BA seem completely incapable of sending emails when seats are swapped .
It means I am constantly checking . They just swapped ours to Male next January from the front mini to the rear of the main . The seat map is currently near empty so I just swapped back .

BA did the same to us in the mini cabin; row 6 and 7 - back to some crappy middle aisle seats (I really like the fwd mini cabin).
We have another leg booked row 7 that has not been touched. mmmnh.

I wonder if there is an issue with the crew rest and they are getting sent to rows 5 and 6?

This is pure speculation but it's possible the aircraft was swapped to another type and then back to the original type. It's not an excuse for what the OP experienced but a possible explanation.

It’s once you subscribe to an app or service (such as the rather excellent Planepoints) you realise just how often BA are swapping airframes and types.

Case in point, I’ve got a flight to Mallorca where the seating is of interest to me as we are a party of three. It’s had 5 aircraft swaps (320/321 and variants of seating plan) so far, and we are still 5 weeks out.
If you’re trying to hold exit row seating it becomes a chore.

I agree as far as the OP (LHR-USEC) but LHR-West Coast needs a longer range plane, like the 777-300ER.
A look at flightaware shows 787 9/10 till 29 March then it upgauges to the 777-300ER.
After that no changes in type.

My money is on a crew rest issue or deadheading. I like the mini cabin for its quiet. I bet the off duty crew do too and insist on it.

Well, I'll just repeat what I was told when I included that as part of a wider complaint on a flight we took last new year, and where this happened multiple times.

What I was told is that it's not that they are incapable of letting us know, it's simply not their policy to do so, because they make it clear up front that they can change your seat for operational reasons.

Frankly there were so many layers of BS in that statement that I didn't even bother to argue, I just took the Avios (which wasn't for that specifically) and moved on.

"The problem with arguing with corporate idiots is that they drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience"

Very confident it's not that. This is just BA's s***ty IT and processes in action.

We had the same on 4 out of 6 flights when I randomly checked yesterday. Only one was supposedly an equipment change (chance of a FLUB maybe, but F seats all blocked). I did notice that all 4 seats in row 6 had been blocked across the CW mini cabins on each flight where we had been bumped to middle row pairs from window seats.

Booted out of 777-200/300 J forward mini cabin to the dorm

I have noticed over several threads a trend here and experienced firsthand where seats booked into the J forward mini-cabin are without notice changed to mid aisle seats in the dorm. Efforts to get it changed back are met with "operational requirements". I personally book the mini cabin when possible as it it quieter, better meal selection, quicker egress, and other than F no other traffic passing thru while loading.

What's the point in selecting seats early if they'll just move me or is that because I was an Avios booking so they'd rather give the "paying" customers the better choices? Is there any way for me to ask to move back to a window seat if I get to the airport check-in early enough?

Got allocated a middle pair of seats in the main cabin, but after a couple of days managed to change to 5A and 6A in the forward cabin. 2 days ago, without being notified by BA, we found we had been moved to 10 E&F on both the outward and return flights!

Same for our return flight in 10 days time. Called BA and got "sorry, computer says no" response.

Thing is, it's the same 777-200 aircraft, it's not like we've gone from 777 to 787...
Hopefully gurus like CIHY and KARFA have a clue what is really going on here.

If this is to be an ongoing thing it is to me one more demerit as far as booking BA for travel as it is not a J experience.
