T5 Baggage issue Friday 15th May 2026
Just received the below , although my flight departs terminal 3
Dear Customer,
We’re sorry to let you know that an issue with the baggage system at London Heathrow Terminal 5 may affect your journey today. This means your checked bag may not be loaded onto your flight and could arrive later.
While this issue is with the airport’s baggage system and outside of our control, please be assured that we’re working closely with Heathrow Airport to minimise disruption and get your bag back to you as quickly as possible.

That's pretty extreme (especially given what the luggage store at LHR charges). Wonder what on earth has happened?

There's a nit-picky but important distinction here. Baggage handling is in BA's control as they employ the bag handlers. The baggage system is not, and it sounds like that is what has broken. Only alternative explanation would be if some sort of system BA's handlers use (say the system that tells them what stand to go to next) has broken.

The system now appears to be working and people in suits helping out those in high-viz to move the mountain of bags. But I was told the knock-on effect of reflying all the delayed bags is probably that not a great deal will make it on time…

Travelled today GLA-LHR-AGP but on arrival in AGP they still couldn’t locate my bags. System still says searching but other passengers already had a confirmation their bags will be on tomorrow’s flight. Should I be worried they can’t locate my bags?
