I was told the same by a GS agent a couple of weeks ago at NRT.
The previous contractor that managed and operated the NRT Club went out of business during Covid and United has to engage a different contractor to get the lounge ready in a decent shape to operate.

I think my standard is quite high. Lots of people here said UC HKG was good, but when I went there in 2019, I thought it was garbage. Like, I would take the Centurion Lounge, Plaza Premium, and any of the CX J lounges over the UC any day of the week. I have yet to have been to a UC with a decent food spread.

The NH lounge has soba, udon and curry typical food found throughout Japan.
A hot bowl of noodles is always good especially during the winter season.
The nama beer machine is pretty much a given.
All NH lounges have it.

The United Club did not have any made-to-order food stations. All buffet style. It was OK, but I would give the edge to NH for overall food service in their lounge.
The showers in the UC were nice, once they added fans to keep it a bit cooler.
If they are engaging a new vendor to run it, we are going to have to wait and see how their food and service compares.
Does anyone know if it will be the same vendor that runs the NH lounges?

It never was before, the NH lounge trumped the UA experience by every metric. Will need to wait for the new club to open to see if food and beverages are upgraded in line with other hub and focus city clubs, and if the new lounge environment is remodeled to match the rest of the system.

At least the UA lounge would give you a fan to bring into the shower room vs showering in the ANA lounge which was like trying to dry off in the middle of a Balinese jungle....but the temperature aside, I think the ANA showers were nicer and more updated.
