DL Employee shot and killed in ATL Employee Parking Lot

Awful news on CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/27/us/de...nta/index.html.

Prayers to his family and colleagues. Terrifying that whatever happened took place at ATL, too.

PS: Not important on the story, but had to do a double take with that stock photo of DL jets at ATL. Might be time for a refresh.

I thought this was somehow in the course of DL operations, may want to edit title.

For those who didn't look at the CNN coverage, a thirty-year-old female employee was found in an employee parking lot at ATL around 10:30 pm Sunday night. She had been shot several times. She was named but no information was given regarding the nature of her job at DL.

I think the title is appropriate. The woman was in the Delta employee parking lot at ATL. I assume she was walking to or from her job.

Perhaps "DL Worker Murdered in ATL Parking Lot" is a better title. I too assumed that this was while on the ramp.

Is that parking lot inside the SIDA or outside?

Half of the lot is landside, and half is SIDA

Are you sure? I'm not aware of any airport where employees park in SIDA. (Except FAA ATC) Inside a secure area, yes. Inside the SIDA, no. The fact was shot at least suggests this is true at ATL. Otherwise employees would be having their vehicles searched everytime they enter.

The lot is off of airport property, but half of it is considered ATL SIDA. I have not read an article that mentions whether the employee was killed in the SIDA or the landside, non-SIDA part.

Does ATL or DL provide escorts to/from cars when employees must arrive and depart from these parking lots at odd hours?

The lot is off of airport property, but half of it is considered ATL SIDA. Employees are screened at bus stops, and then the bus delivers employees into the SIDA. I have not read an article that mentions whether the employee was killed in the SIDA or the landside, non-SIDA part.

There are shuttles that operate to/from the airport for the employees to the off-site lots. Now, whether they shuttle people around inside the parking lot or not to their specific vehicle is a question I can't answer, but my guess is that they just have one or two generic "stops" for the entire lot.

This is most likely a domestic violence incident. Escort (unless armed security guard) would not have mattered, just been another victim.
