BA v VS redemption availability
I've a conference in San Francisco 11-12 Nov so I looked up both BA and VS
Even at this short notice, VS had pretty open redemption availability in Y, and some limited available in Y+, but BA had nothing.
Any ideas why there's such a discrepancy between the availabilities?
Don't often fly Virgin but if their reward availability is so wide open might have to reconsider

For a direct cash fare Y to SFO for £337 on VS I wouldn’t be using reward flights on either airline!

Agree. It’d be a waste of miles to use them on inexpensive longhaul flights. There’s a significant YQ (carrier imposed surcharge) to pay as well. Unless tickets are expensive it’s better to pay the cash fare.
