Since you asked, I prefer the 4 Points over the Sheraton at LAX.

Lots of info has been written about these 2 properties. If you look on the upper right side of the screen, you'll see 'SEARCH'. Click on this, and then type in LAX, or 4 Points LAX or any of those type of combinations. You can even type in my screen name, or , PremEx, as he too has written about these properties. To refine the search, sub-click on a date, say the last 6 months for more timely info.

When on personal business I use the 4Pts as the parking is a tad bit cheaper, they have the 24 hour room clock for plats regardless of rates, I usually get a suite, albeit they are quite worn, I can usually swing a couple drink/breakfast coupons from the front desk

The down side is the lines to check in and out can be quite long and slow, I've complained many a time about this to the GM, the rooms are old and warn, the parking sucks, and the shuttle to pick you up at LAX is known to be quite slow or full and they will bypass you if you are at one of the last three terminals.. T6-T8, yes double points but fyi only a 250 plat amenity bonus.

The Sheraton, I like on business, as it does cost more, but the rooms are much newer, suites are much nicer, but the parking costs a bit more. The line in the lobby was surprisingly slow the times I was there. Its a bit further out from LAX albeit, not much.

We go in 3 weeks to the Sheraton, so I can let you know after that, but I think you need info sooner... first time there for me.

When booking the Sheraton Gateway, keep in mind the MasterCard promos (such as buy two nights, get one free.) We'll be there this weekend at only $158 for 3 nights.

While I haven't stayed at the 4Pts LAX, I did have a great stay with the Gateway in December 2002. The management has changed, effective 31DEC, I think, so, caveat emptor.

I've been at the LAX Gateway about once every 3 weeks. Last stay: 10/7/03.It has the new Sheraton sleeper beds. A roomy Club level lounge with cont. bkfst and evening hors d'oeuvres and nice heated outdoor pool. A new fitness center and high-speed internet are now being installed. I generally find free overnight street parking along the street just north of the hotel; so while it's a bit more expensive than the 4-Pts., it's my first choice at LAX. The new mgt. has helped things and has improved Plat. recognition, IMO.

Also, dhammer53 was really trying to be genuinely helpful as use of the search feature would have yielded a lot of up-to-date feedback on these two properties, arguably more quickly than these posts took.

Ocean Vw,

Re: Sheraton Gateway LAX:

1. Thanks. Have the evening appetizers improved - they were just awful several months ago. Also - is the Club open again on weekends?

2. I was disappointed to hear thru grapevine that there is no more LAX Flight Arrival/Departure Info. either in the lobby or in the rooms. Can you confirm this?

3. Also - when did the "new" mgmt.take over?

Many thanks.

I've decided on the Gateway using 3000 SPG points, since both Gateway and 4pts are CAT 1. Thanks to all posts that are direct specific up-to-date answers relative to the question listed.

All other comments that are unrelated, thanks and now to the next caller on C-Span.

Sky 1...Don't know your SPG elite level (if any) but if you are a Platinum and if you are using an award... from a strictly SPG benefit point of view (not counting property quality or above and beyond property amenities), you made the correct decision (both being Cat 1s), as the Four Points gives 250 Platinum Amenity Starpoints, while the Sheraton gives 500.
