Trust me, it is not a concession or a perk at all. The reason they use the boat is because the floatplane can't land because of the rough waters. You don't want to be on that boat if you can avoid it. It is 90 minutes of open water heaving, rolling, and yawing. The last thing you want is champers, all it will do is a return trip.

it would seem that Aman is now in full steam and we can look forward to more exciting places to go......my concern would be ........can they still maintain their "aura" ..........in terms of design ad service believe it or not....
anyhow i look forward to the Aman in Luang Prabang next year .
but just about everyone else is heading to LP too...one find s oneself "yearning" for .the days of the Phou Vao and its electricity brownouts ....i do hope the likes of accor et al would refrain from soiling it. - there must be rules if one is un heritage site - surely.

Aman in Luang Prabang? Finally another ubercool destination. Does anyone know what will be the next opening? Beijing? Delhi?
BTW, since I am planning a trip to Japan in April do you have any traditional boutique hotel (ryokan) to suggest? (I understand Aman-Niwa is not going to happen in the near future).

PS for those interested in sailing trips: according to its website, the Silolona sails also outside the komodo sea during the (komodo) rainy season. Check out the itinerary section of http://www.silolona.com/
Honestly, I do not know whether they still keep the level of service and amazing cuisine I found when it was managed by Amans (I remember we used to swim or snorkle from the boat to the coast of one of the deserted isles around Komodo while the staff prepared umbrellas, loungers, chilled drinks on a perfect pink sand beach for us - a bunch of very spoilt castaways).

tawaraya and hiragiiya are the two best regarded lux ryokan in Kyoto, with the former being more formal, IIRC.

Thank you Kagehitokiri, I have already seen both in internet sites and they are both tempting.
Bearbrick, the three main cabins are very roomy while the remaning two are supposed to be singles although they are bigger than a double cabin of an average 45 ft sailboat. It really depends on how sporty is the couple in question. By the way, nobody spent much time in the cabins. There were sunbeds everywhere a beautiful aft lounge area and there were plenty of things to do (exploring the islands, dragons-spotting, scuba, snorkelling, etc.). Ill se whether I can post a few pics somewhere.

News of Aman Delhi
From the 5 star alliance...Not sure how accurate this is but here goes...
"Over the last few months, rumors have been flying about a new hotel from Amanresorts located in New Delhi....
Slated to open in September 2008, The Aman will be Amanresorts first city property, the gateway to the Aman experience in northern India. Expect private plunge pools and all sorts of high-tech accoutrements. Located at the edge of New Delhi near Humayuns Tomb (pictured) and Purana Qila (a fortress dating from 1400 B.C.), the nine-story hotel will have 29 rooms."
