If I flash a black Amex card, but don't gamble, will the Wynn still comp my buffet? How about at the El Cortez?

It seems like if you have one, you could afford to pay for a buffet? Or at least gamble enough to get a real comp.

I was being facetious. Where else but the Luxury Hotels forum can you hear people with too much money gripe about the substandard caviar and how the end of the TP roll wasn't perfectly triangle-folded.

Hi Mbstone!

Just a quick note to my fellow regulars on lux hotels to advise to just laugh off Mbstone's quip and any respinses to this note. Agree or disagree with the quality of the humor...it doesnt matter, let's move on quickly.

mikeef,
How is the pool situation at Skylofts? Is it the regular MGM Grand pool setup or do they have a different set for Skylofts. My initial thought is that the MGM Grand pool would be too crowded for my tastes currently (great for bachelor parties...otherwise questionable) and that a seperate Skylofts area would be too tame and "un-Vegasy". Thoughts?

Sorry, I thought that this thread was moved to the Las Vegas forum, no offense meant....

As a gambler I have been comped to high-end rooms at both Wynn and Skylofts. They are both excellent in very different ways.

It depends on your personal taste. For me, the Skyloft is the modern apartment I never had. So they are my favorite rooms in Vegas right now.

At the high-end they are both great. But a low-end room at Wynn easily beats its counterpart at MGM just by being newer. They are renovating everything at MGM, but from the top down.

Decided to jump into this old thread and chime in a bit. I've personally never stayed at the Skylofts, but the experiences I've heard about seem to extend far beyond the experiences I've personally had at the Wynn. Having a concierge contact you ahead of time to ask when you arrive/depart flight wise, book shows, restaurants, spa, etc. is a great touch. I've even heard reports of the concierge calling to ask what types of beverages/music you'd like to be waiting in your room before you arrive (though this last one seems to vary, not everyone seems to have been asked that question). The Wynn certainly never went that far for me, and while their rooms and decor was extremely lovely, I just don't see the comparison between the size, decor, and amenities of the Skylofts. I do like the Wynn, but what made your stays so special that you'd put it above the Skylofts?

i think you can easily enjoy a stay in Vegas in either one. At least when I am there, 99% of the time I am in the room I am sleeping

I think most people who have stayed in both would prefer the rooms at the Skylofts (especially with the Amex upgrade) and concierge amenities but for the overall resort and feel, Wynn has MGM Grand beat hands down...
