Lifts and escalators at T5
Hi everyone, I'm heading out to Singapore on BA11 in a few weeks and will have plenty of time to kill at the terminal. Looking at the flight history it seems to depart most commonly from the C gates, but after a very long and strange bus ride from A gates to a fully loaded 777 last time, I know I can't take that for granted! I'll be taking the transit train to the lounge at the B gates, but need to make a plan for getting back to A just in case, as I know you can't use the transit in reverse. Does anyone know whether escalators go all the way from -the 4 walkway to departures, and if not, whether the lifts are glass with the ability to see out at all times? I have a phobia of lifts so would really appreciate any insight anyone could share. I'd also like to use the POD system to get to T5 initially, but likewise can't seem to find out whether the lifts from the POD exit area are glass or whether escalators or stairs are available as an alternative. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide!

From memory there are no windows in the lifts from POD parking but you can use the stairs.
The lifts going up and down in the A and B gates have glass so you can see out.
The lifts in the C gates do not have glass, but you can use the escalators to go up to departures.

You cant use the escalators to go back down to level -4 as they operate in the UP direction only. Youd have to take a lift which have glass doors.
The car park lifts that youd take from the POD parking also have glass doors on one side only.

I think thats correct for the lifts up from -4/-2 to the departures area in b and c - no glass. But as you say you can use the escalators going up. However if you need to come back down to -4 in b and c then theres no choice and you must use the lifts.
as others have noted, the lifts from -4 back up to t5a departure area are glass sided.

The left-most lift, going up, from -4 to departures at the B gates, has a glass panel in the side overlooking the security area as you speed past it. So right-most lift when in departures and going back down.

yes but i think you can press the button to get out the transit level rather than go all the way back up to A departures. Its the same lift as goes up and down from the departures transit level. It is likely it will pick people up at the transit level

Sorry my mistake, no need to pick up in transit level in departures, and the escalators in departures only go down
