Greetings from Frankfurt!
Some participants are already on the road. I am not scheduled to travel until Friday (Thursday if I get very unlucky), so I just enjoyed the day in Frankfurt, following the progress of those already on the road. I imagine katycab +1 are watching a West End show in London now. GrjApp must be enjoying frog legs for dinner in Paris. I went out for a sushi lunch in Frankfurt.

I would like to share some important information about the French hand baggage rules.

This is soft cheese and it is allowed in hand luggage. The French know soft cheese is not a liquid. I never had a problem taking soft cheese through security.

This is soft cheese CREAM. It is NOT allowed in hand luggage. It is produced by passing soft cheese through a food processor, it counts as a liquid and has to be checked in. They took it away from me the last time I was departing TLS (and explained why I could keep the other cheeses).

This is cassoulet for the microwave in plastic packaging. I took ready-to-eat food in such packaging through French security many times (even stuff like couscous which includes liquid sauce).

This is cassoulet in a can. It can NOT be taken in hand luggage, because there is a limit on the size of canned foods you can take with you (I think they said it was 250ml). I doubt they'll make an exception for tinned sausages made from wild animals who met a premature death.
I hope this information will help avoid disappointments at security when departing TLS

Finally the day has arrived and I’m on the move!
Good morning from Newcastle Airport!
Newcastle airport security was a little broken this morning. The busiest I’ve ever seen it apart from the day there was a power cut. Made it through in the end and let’s open festivities the way they should be opened.

you know you’re at the airport too often when the guy in the bar greets you by name!

Security was a breeze in FRA this morning, I was in the deserted SEN lounge B within minutes

The lounge does have sparkling wine, but there will be better bubbles further down the road today. There will not be such a good orange juice though.

Now I am in the front row of Y on LH924, the middle seat is free, boarding completed. So far, life is as good as it can be in Y.

Boarding started a full forty minutes before departure so plenty of time for a chat with the crew who are absolutely delightful, the sort of crew that make BA a pleasure to fly. I also had a passing chat to the captain as he came out to use the facilities and a few minutes later a little surprise from the flight deck.

Everyone on board, menus distributed, and still ten minutes to departure on this lightly loaded A320. Only four rows in business and plenty of empty seats in both cabims

They’re currently checking the wings to decide if we need deicing or not… hopefully not and we can be on our way
Next Stop: LHR in an hour and a bit.

Good morning from chilly Netherlands!
I'm taking a little bit earlier train than I had planned, motivated by JapesUK photo of champagne.

By rail to sun and sea
Shortly I was at the airport.

A nice quick hop down to London with no drama and a lovely crew. As I will be grazing the whole day through I passed on the breakfast plate and settle for a little lubrication

Wheels down in LHR at 07:24, nice and early
Next Stop: T3 in maybe three quarter of an hours time

Fast track at Schiphol was very busy but I got through quickly. Neither bag went to secondary which surprised me as my case is full of tinned hutspot and gestampte andijvie.
Passports was rammed however. There are just not enough egates. So it was a bit of a wait. Luckily I chose a queue with only Europeans in it, hurried man behind me picked a shorter queue but slowly realised four US tourists ahead. The egates always have to think long before letting them through it seems.
Now in a busy oneworld lounge ready for the day ahead.

Bon appetite!
