The question is would zero-ed inventory allow for a claim to reroute if the flight still shows as operating? If yes - it would be indeed very good news. But I am not sure. In our case we have a mix of paid J and award J - either paid with QR Avios and AS points. So it would be complicated to plan for alternatives. Assuming the situation continues and would not allow for full schedule by mid may best case scenario would be by mid April to for QR to reroute us with BA/AF/KL. Worst case scenario would be QR canceling last minute, returning our payment, and having to find on our own four J return tickets SFO to South Africa one month or less before our flights. In any case I plan to wait for another couple of weeks or at least until mid April before I take action. There are too many unknowns and uncontrollables right now.

Just checked the schedule updates and seems that QR has canceled (or better said zeroed availability and not selling) QR737/738 DOH-SFO-DOH until May 1st. Our flight is on May13th which at this point we are not sure if it will operate - but at least QR canceling all the way out give us enough runway to explore other options.
Looking at their flight schedule, DOH-SFO is still scheduled for some days for the rest of this month and in April.

My experience and the guideline would say no. If you are lucky, you may get an agent who would reroute (but I think even that is getting more unlikely as they get more familiar with the guideline).

I cannot reach QR's customer service.
The live chat says there are too many people in line and it does not even let me join the chat.
The support phone line never gets picked up...I've been on hold for more than 5 hours now.
(I am calling the Canadian phone number today as I am currently in Canada.)
How are people even managing to get to talk to a QR agent?

What permission would they need? They already have the slots, the ground services... They are just bypassing DOH.
It will probably still be a logistic nightmare in terms of flight schedules, crew, and catering. But permission should not be the issue here. It's called a 5th/7th *freedom* for a reason.

A further data point for anyone who's booked Qatar with AA miles (001 ticket stock, but otherwise not adhering to JV partners on rebooking guidance.)
My flights on QR metal only went in scope today following update 5, for travel late March.
Contacted an AA agent via chat through the app. Connected immediately, and enquired about options. I couldn't get firm confirmation on who they could rebook with, but a number of skyteam and mixed carrier options were declined. Finally found a routing that worked with BA, and accepted that, and then the confirmation came through...the long flight was in Premium Economy rather than business.
Back onto chat, sorted the issue, and now business (suites) with MH instead.
It seems they're only rebooking onto oneWorld flights, atleast for what I could find. Also search the airlines websites rather than aggregators for your options, as things seem to be moving so quickly GF/Kayak etc aren't necessarily accurate.
Good luck all...

Got an email the next day to say that routing can't be ticketed, and will only put me on reward inventory. The scope of the middle east policy isn't clear in this regard. Qatar aren't accepting new bookings, and I'm without a ticket. AA mismanaged my booking, refuse to book on revenue inventory on the dwindling number of available flights, and now there's a chance my original QR flights operate, or if they don't I'd still have options through irops. Many hours on the phone, tweets and chats has failed to move the needle, and I'm still without a confirmed ticket in the appropriate class of travel. I'll be booking a cash fare and reclaiming the costs (EC261). My advice, double & triple check your reservation is actually ticketed.

We have a flight on the 19th LHR via DOH to PER - just looking in the APP I have a notification that our outbound QR4 is cancelled and we have been rebooked on a later service at 8pm from LHR. However no connecting flight onto Perth. Our return flights from Perth in April are still showing. So at the moment we only have flights as far as Doha yet return flights coming back from Perth. I see a few other posts on Reddit with similar issues or with connecting flights that depart before the inbound flight arrives.
I've had no email informing of a schedule change. I'm guessing they maybe mid way through updating the schedule? Not sure whether to leave it a while or call. Like everyone there is the worry that the longer things are left unresolved, the less availability there is to ask for a rebooking on a different carrier.

As there's no seat available on either CX, TK or NH, now I'm going from Qsuite to Club World, what a stark difference in the quality of the product...

Just wanted to provide an update on my own experience with QR.
Had Avios reward issued on QR paper (157 ticket) from BKK to MAN via DOH for 14MAR, 2 people in J.
QR cancelled the flight on the 12MAR. I didn’t get an email and only spotted the cancellation because I was religiously checking the app for updates. I managed to get through on live chat around 1pm ICT. It was the first time live chat had worked for me. The difference being there was a live chat link in my cancelled booking. Not sure if that made a difference or just coincidence.
Before speaking to QR, I’d researched alternatives with other airlines that I was happy with and had 4 options from Google flights and Skyscanner. As soon as I was connected to an agent, I said “my flight is cancelled, and I’d like to run through options for reprotecting on other airlines” then gave my first option. That wasn’t available, so we checked the second option which was BKK-TPE-LHR on CI (China Airlines). This was available and just as I was about to confirm, I lost connection on live chat.
It took about 30 minutes to get reconnected, but luckily, 2 seats were still available on CI, and we had confirmed e-tickets within about 20 minutes. The whole process took about 2 hours.
Neither agent I chatted with pushed a refund or new date and obliged in checking and booking what worked for me.
The trip back was long. We departed BKK at 0235, brief stop in TPE, almost 16 hours onboard the flight to LHR then 5 hours getting back to Yorkshire. CI are a decent airline. The seat was comfortable, food plentiful and (mostly) tasty. I’ll do a full review which I’ll share on my blog in coming weeks for those interested.
Whilst at BKK, I saw on the departure board that QR were operating a repat flight direct to MAN. I’ve since read that J and F was almost empty on the A380. I don’t know why we weren’t offered the repat flight, other than they might not have had it confirmed when my flight was cancelled or they were trying to prioritise passengers that had been stranded. I’m gutted to have missed out on the A380 as it’s my favourite aircraft, but I’m not complaining. QR did exactly what I asked of them, when I asked it. Considering the experience many other people had, I count myself as one of the lucky ones.

I've had two (seperate) redemption bookings which I cancelled. I cancelled one on Tuesday and have got the avios and taxes back. The other one I cancelled yesterday and got the avios back but not taxes yet.
If you call them (and get through), I often find you can get your Avios back immediately by asking.

Waiting that late was making me nervous as other flights were selling out, but I knew thered be no chance of them doing anything other than a date change or refund which I didnt want.
