For your 1500 LP that were clawed back, that is strange if you didn't actually cancel your AARP membership. I would fill out a missing miles report with AAdvantage Shopping and go from there.
I definitely am going to contest it with AAdvantage shopping. But just in case, I want to try to make up those LPs.
I realize hotel points and AAdvantage miles are different...this was just an example. He even tried to do a remote check in, but they wouldn't accept that either. What really stunk is he was a just a couple of miles away from the property, and it was during a surge-demand weekend, so his company paid royally for those rooms. But in his situation, he had to leave early and didn't have a choice.

I'm just a little gun shy, I guess. Plus this is the first time I have had to stretch to requalify. Appreciate your responses, thanks again!

~About~ how long does it take for these points to post? We've 8 days to the end of the month/year and I don't want to cut it too close. I realize they count for the year you "check in," but I would like to see the points post before the end of the month, IYKWIM.

And why a two night stay? Because he needed 15,000 points?

No way to guarantee these will post by the end of the month -- in fact, I suspect it is unlikely -- but they will eventually post. Timing varies from several days to several weeks from your checkout date (but you are correct that it's the check in date that determines the status year to which it will post).

Hello dwcatty , yes, because the OP needed 15,000 LPs which is the maximum you can get per stay (while the per night limit is 10,000).

I recently did a one night AA hotel. I booked it on Sunday February 15th for a 1 night stay checking in on Monday 16th.
The miles were credited to my Advantage account on Thursday morning. So about 5 days.

What happens if you book a refundable flight on AA using AA credit card, get the LPs for the cc spend in current qualifying year (ends 2/28) and then have to canceled the flight some months later and have the ticket price refund to the credit card? How would this effect ‘25-‘26 LPs especially if you are just past the next LP level? Also this assumes you would have equal or greater spend on the cc in the month you cancel, compared to the flight cost.

Why not just do that with a nonrefundable flight and use the credit from that flight the next year? Assuming if you have status that using it within the next year wouldn't be an issue.

The answer is that they generally dont claw back elite status once earned. Ive had my LP balance (temporarily) dip back below the qualifying level for a new status and the status hasnt reverted.

I don’t like to deal with credits. I’d rather pay the refundable fee.

Buy something at CVS via Aadvantageeshopping and choose pickup at store. It will post in day or two.

You will get the LPs in the month when you statement closes. The month when you refund the ticket, the total LPs will be deducted then.
In Feb 2026: you purchased a $4,000 ticket. You will be credited the 4,000 LPs for the current year 2025-2026 qualifying period.
In May 2026: you refund that $4,000 ticket. If your total spend in May was $6,000 you will not get 6,000 LP. You will only receive 2,000 for the 2026-2027 period. They will not back date the reduction.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Vegas hotel. My $40 "stay" last night should get me the 2,000 pts I needed for the next level.

Ok thanks, my experience was similar. Booked two one-night stays at two different properties, checking in to both on 2/18 and out 2/19 and the points posted in the afternoon of 2/22. So four days from check in for me.

Thanks for the info above. I'm 4k points from reaching EXP this year. AA is saying if I pay $800 (or 90k miles from my bank) right now then it'll take me to there, but I'm not looking to throw away that money or points.

My Citi Exec card billing cycle ends on the 7th of each month, and I usually get 6-8k LPs every month from that. I also just stayed at a hotel (2/21 - 2/24) and should get another 15k there. I assume those LPs won't show up until after Feb 28, so my question is can I still make EXP if everything finally posts to my account after March 1 since purchases were made before that? Just don't want to miss the boat when I'm this close.
